Just rewatched Chavez vs Taylor and was wondering if this was the best performance ever against a guy (i think) who was universally recognised as P4P number one. He beat him in evrey department- boxed him, body punches, infighting and counterpunching. I don't want to get into a debate about the result and controversy, but have you ever seen that dominant performance against someone like Chavez?
at the end of the day, he lost the fight. Maybe Tarver KO2 Jones is the most dominating win on a p4p#1
Whitaker's performance over Chavez was more impressive, as Pernell won that fight outright but was not given the verdict. Clear victory over a consensus best Mexican fighter of all time.
Being that you rarely have a undisputed p4p number 1, there is only one to pick and that is Tarver over Jones. However there has been times when you had two or three fighters that were seen as p4p 1. at which time Jones dominated Toney who along with Whitaker were depending on who you ask were p4p 1's.
That's the best example I can remember, Honeyghan wasn't given a chance. Tarver troubled Jones in the first fight so beating him in the 2nd one wasn't that big a shock.
Tarver KO over Jones in 2 wasn't a dominating performance. he caught Jones with one punched that finished the fight. Jones was actually getting the better of the two up to that point. You beat me to it. This was the first fight I could think of.
