Was just going over McAuley vs Matlala at Flyweight and got to thinking about this one. Heavyweights aside, what were the fights where the gulf in size was most apparent?

in bygone days it was certainly not unusual to see fighters outweighing one another by 20 - 30lbs and sometimes more. In Britain it was probably done more than in other of Boxings leading nations. However most of these matches needed the approval of the board and only the best were considered capable enough to step up, even though the outcome was likely in the hands of the bigger fighter!

funny, today the trend is to compete 20lbs below your natural weight.

I should reiterate, I'm trying to keep it to fighters fighting at the same weight class.

well the diff then would only be at the two opposite ends, i.e MW 148 - 160, 12lbs (original 8).

    Ortiz vs castillo
Jibaro Perez vs almost everyone at Bantam
    Cervantes vs Dejesus
Carlos Ortiz vs Ismael Laguna for two great fighters against each other who were both prime at the same weight.

I know you said outside of the HW's but if we included them then the biggest difference in a title fight was Valuev Barret 106 pounds

McAuley Vs Baby Jake is ridiculous

I imagine Netrnoi Vs Zapata would've been silly, but have never even seen a still of the contest.

I won't bother with Heavyweights, too easy. I'll also go for same day weigh-in's as not to include modern day cutters.

    Kingpetch Vs Perez
    Shibata Vs Villaflor
    Foster Vs Tiger
Kaule Vs Ho Joo (Kalule had a much larger talent that essentially made him 8 feet tall and made Joo scale just a few centimetres)
    Avelar Vs Lopez

What height was baby jake, something ridiculous like 4ft 9?

    He was a legend.

Pac v margo was about 20 pounds.

Erdei v frag was a good few pounds also.

Gatti v that guy he brutally knocked out was about 20 pounds.

Corrales v clottey was quite a size mismatch.

2 foot 3 I think, according to Boxrec. McAuley an intimidating twelve feet tall compared to the black chap.

oh! day before weigh-ins, and added pounds on the night.
still better though when smaller fighters step up, never be allowed today!

Great choice. Every time I've watched that one I've thought the same thing. Villaflor looked massive.

I'm just saying, to the naked eye, which fights between fighters of the same weight class appeared the least even in terms of size?

Pacquiao vs Sasakul is another, also Ledwaba. Sugar Ramos looked pretty damn big against Saldivar.
