Another good one. Forrest was definitely the underdog and he BOMBED on Mosley from pillar to post for 12 rounds.
Yet again, 'The Great Myth Of Calzaghe v Lacy' rears its ugly head. This is one of the biggest myths in boxing!! This was a fight between two unbeaten smw champions. Calzaghe had been a champion for far longer and had a better resume. Lacy was favoured by the majority of the American press because (a) he is American, (b) held the quality much valued by American fans and by the media - punching power. Calzaghe was favoured by the majority of the British press because (a) he had proven to be a very good champion over a number of years, (b) he was a better boxer than Lacy. Lacy was a slight favourite overall, but no more than that. To compare this to a huge upset like Douglas over Tyson or Honeyghan over Curry is utterly ridiculous!!
Pacquiao was a MASSIVE underdog. Barrera was world p4p#3 at the time and Pac had hardly even fought in the West, he was known as a former flyweight champ from Asia with 2 KO defeats on his record. And it was a DOMINATION. Keep this thread open all year and you won't get a better answer than Pac-MAB I!
You and me both buddy. I remember before the fight all my family and friends were all hyped up when the fight started, and NOTHING was said from about the 5th round on. I remember my brother saying "don't worry he'll catch him, he'll catch him"....He didn't :-(
You may be right about that. American press had Lacy heads above Calzaghe in the fight. Most writers even picked him by stoppage. But I'm sure European factions had the fight much closer or even for Calzaghe. But here in the U.S. it was a shocker, no doubt.
in the brittish betting lacy was 2/5 calzaghe 2/1 but what the original poster meant that it was a shock at the dominance of calzaghe
Are we forgetting Pavlik-Hopkins? I don't remember the odds but I can honestly say alot of people were very very surprised by Diaz-Campbell.
Cotto vs. Margo...I don't suspect people predicted that sort of brutal beating coming ahead Pac vs. DLH...again another thing no one suspected Quintana vs. Williams I...something no one thought would be possible Duran vs. Leonard I...Duran and his mind games :yep Hopkins vs. Pavlik...Pavlik didn't even "get off":-( Mijares vs. Darchinyan...People thought he would get thoroughly get outboxed These were all from this year pretty much...with the exception of D vs. L
