how about the carlos quintana vs. joel julio fight. i think quinata was a big under dog in that fight and controlled the whole way through!
No way was the Hatton/Tszyu a surprise - not to me - no way. The way Hatton was pre Tszyu was a very hungry young scrappy. The way he walked down on his entrance (just go back to it on YouTube or something and look at his entrance and look at his face and demeanour) - he was immune to pain. The intense concentration ringing in his brain - no way was that a surprise to me.
I'm still looking for the difference between "upset" and "shocking performances in which the underdog utterly controlled the fight when he wasnt expected to."
Hatton vs Tszyu was a surprise to me. Whilst I would have bet my bottom £ on Hatton to beat anybody else, but Tszyu.... you just hear the name and know what it means...... I expected Ricky to be leading on the cards through workrate but to go out on his shield late. To be fair it wasn't one-sided at all, probably 7-4 or 6-5 at the time Ronnie Shields pulled Kostya out.
Ok the criteria is really two things...not a 1 punch KO but rather a sustained boxing schooling. And when the fight is over you could say to yourself "Wow I knew he was good but didn't expect him to beat him, let alone dominate him like that!" Not for instance at the end of Douglas vs Tyson nobody would have said "ya know I think we underestimated his abilities." There have been a lot of good ones mentioned here, ie Tito-Winky is a perfect example of an underdog pitching an unexpected shutout. We knew Winky was a good fighter but he was matched up with someone many people felt to be a class above him ...and ultimately thought he would lose rather convincingly if not knocked out.
It was one of those fights, Hatton's first major test amongst the big boys and out of all the champs to face, he's in with the best. I was out that night but got in in time to catch the tail end on the radio, in all honesty I thought Tszyu would have finished him in 6 or 7, but when I heard it's round 10 and I'm missing an all out war with Hatton in charge, I thought "whoaaaa", this guy is the real deal after all.

You can replace the "wow" for an expletive but other than that I request that you stay true to the original line.
