    ??

Now there is the obvious answer but I have been speaking to an oldtimer who seems to think that a young Turpin at home was a live chance then.

He was the Euro champ and in good form apparently, smashing the dutchman Van something for the Euro title was a big win.

Im yet to see it but Ive read two accounts that say that Turpin was either leading or it was close in the rematch when Robinson floored him in the 10th. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Honeyghan's destruction of Curry, whilst it pales in comparison in an historical sense, was certainly a big upset.

    Edit..Thread should read bigger upset.

I've heard the same thing also. I've seen the last round of the rematch many years ago. I believe it was a desperate flurry by SRR that caused the KO. I can't remember why exactly, I'm thinking SRR had a bad cut but I'm not 100%.

Very tough call though. I'll go with Honeyghan over Curry.

Yeah I just checked into it, SRR had a really bad cut over his eye and made a huge attempt to finish the fight in the final round. Which of course was sucessful. Which is why it was the final round.

By all accounts in the British press at the time Turpin was in the shape of his life for the first fight and SRR, well he was on a wine and dine tour of Europe.

You'd be surprised how highly Curry was thought of while he was still undefeated.

I believe that Curry was thought of as the P4P number one fighter before the Honeyghan fight.

    It was a major upset.

Turpins win over SRR was better for the simple reason that Robinson was miles better than Curry. Simple.

I would imagine it would be the Robinson - Turpin fight that was the bigger upset, simply because outside of the UK, Turpin was largely unheralded. The fight was the last on Robinson's European tour which was organised to generate some ready cash for Robinson, if I remember correctly.

The British were so sure of victory in the last round, that they started singing "For he's a jolly good fellow".
Sad how Turpin's life went downhill not long after that, having to resort to wrestling in the end, and taking his life at the age of 37.

When Honeyghan fought Curry not many people in England even knew the fight was happening. That's how unheralded at the time Honeyghan was, even in the UK. Then again the fight wasn't in England, if it was it might have been a different story.

When Sibson fought Hagler in the states, it was a big deal in England. However people in England knew who Hagler was due to the fact that he had won his title by crushing Minter in London.

I'm not sure what the odds were on a Turpin win but I'm pretty sure that Honeyghan was a 6-1 underdog in the Curry fight.

On top of that, Honeyghan smashed Curry and barely lost a round if i remember.

Toss-up, but being that Curry was the top fighter pound-per-pound, and was one-sidedly handled by Honeyghan, I'll go with him and Honeyghan.
