Correct, for odds expressed "American style" you just divide by a hundred to get the per dollar value.
Upsets I called Sor Rungviasi-Gonzalez Roman-Kubo Horn-Pacquiao Sor Rungviasi-Gonzalez II Ogawa-Farmer Berchelt-Vargas Kuga-Ishimoto Rios-Maderna Picked the upset... but buckled at the last minute fearing a Robbery. Garcia-Real Zhakiyanov-Warren Was damn close to picking upset, but chose to play it safe. Kimura-Shiming Ali-Cotto Castellanos-Gamboa Hooper-Salamov Abell-Zimnoch Mimoune-Eggington Genuinely Shocked by. Truax-DeGale Dimitrenko-Granat Aleem-Khytrov Cook-Butler James-Chaves Bellew-Haye Not upsets, but robberies. Claggett-Ulysse Jr. Evans-Rosa
Dimitrenko getting trounced should never be a shock, he sucks. (then again, Granat doesn't exactly pass the eye test himself. They both suck..)
So to put that in perspective, Lamont Peterson is a +1150 underdog, the same that Robinson Castellanos was facing Yuriorkis Gamboa. So right off the bat, Peterson could match the #7 biggest numerical upset of 2017, as early as January 27th. Pimp move if he could pull it off.
That’s because most people who know boxing do not count that as a win for Horn as he was clearly beaten by Pacquiao.
You do understand that that isn't why, and has nothing to do with where he is ranked numerically on the list, right?
When you stop and think about it, strip away the name Paulie Malignaggi (and while he still had name value, he wasn't really all that valuable a win qualitatively at that point as he was shot to bits and hadn't produced much world class form since his last-hurrah stint in 2013, in the Broner and Judah fights) and there is nothing on Eggington's resume compared with Mimoune's to have suggested the latter should be +850. Mimoune had 2 losses, one a SD, to reasonable competition, Euro prospects, no less reasonable than Johnny Coyle or Dale Evans to be certain. The best h2h fighter between their records was Skeete, to whom Eggington lost. The second or third best actual win for Eggington (in reality that is, recognizing that Malignaggi by then was pretty worthless), after Gavin and maybe Vassell, is Ceferino Rodríguez - and guess what?? Mimoune actually low-key has a shutout victory over then-unbeaten Rodríguez two full years before Eggington got to him!
Funniest thing is, I actually know so many MMA casual fools who genuinely would tell you this in a serious way. Actually have a friend who was calling me stupid for saying McGregor had no chance. Most enfuriating thing ever.
Only takes one punch doe Dat straight left doe I hated that fight but on reflection it's been one of the greatest things to ever happen. You can troll these Connor spastics so easily. I'd love him to fight Pac and get his head absolutely pinged around the ring
That's quite interesting. Help me out a bit as I'm not much of a gambler. Are odds an international thing? Like the +500 Horn over Pac you point out, is it safe to assume +500 would have been Horn's odds universally or is it a regional thing?
Globalization, baby. Different websites might fluctuate a little from one another but the odds are mostly going to be in the same general ballpark (sorry, regional sports colloquialism there - same general neighborhood)
Thanks bud. So if Conor had beaten Floyd that would not have even made the list, by anyone's measure. The bottom is a six-way tie at +300 and Conor was +250 I think. I wonder why he got such good odds. I mean I didn't think Horn would beat Pac, but I certainly gave him more chance than I did Conor over Floyd. What metric gave Conor so much better odds and do you think it reflects the truth? Did Conor have more of a chance to beat Floyd than Horn did Pac on paper? I didn't watch the Degale fight myself, worth watching?
Probably because he's a prime athlete (despite being in a different combat sport) while Mayweather was considered very old and unlikely to have another return to form after yet another extended layoff in him. Not to mention that McGregor is a much bigger man and until Diaz exposed him was considered this supremely dangerous juggernaut and force of destruction. The hype manufactured around him was, by design, an echo of the buzz around prime Mike Tyson...and even after he was proven mortal some of his mystique remained (even among the normally level-headed pro handicappers, it seems)
Worth noting that Roman was favoured over Kubo in the UK, and the fight was a 50-50 with book makers in Poland, showing that the odds can change dramatically from country to country
