I'm putting together a list of boxing upsets from recent years, trying to find correlations, rough or not. Do more upsets happen at a particular weight class, for example. Are certain highly touted prospects from a certain country upset more often, and if so is that because they're of poor quality or because that country produces a higher number of prospects? I've always found a lot of upsets to happen at heavyweight, and at the very lowest weights. Match making isn't nearly as careful down there, probably because of smaller paydays and less opportunities in general, along with a higher skill level. There was very little buzz or discussion about plenty of these fights, so I'll be gauging the term upset statistically, from betting lines, if I remember them. Very recently, Joe Smith Jr knocking out Andrzej Fonfara on PBC. Smith ranged from 8/1 to 10/1 to win straight up. In the middle of 2016, at heavyweight, "kill or be killed" southpaw banger Joey Abell stopped Native American "prospect" John Wesley Nofire. This one , again, aired on PBC. Abell was at least 10 to 1 to win. Huge upset. Adrian Granados was 9 to 1 and up against Amir Imam, whom he ended up stopping. Devon Alexader lost to 14 to 1 underdog Aaron Martinez. I was in shock when they gave it to Martinez. Any input, thoughts or fights are welcome and appreciated. :hi:
Here ae a couple for each: Official: Tyson Fury vs Wlad Klitschko Marcos Maidana vs Adrien Broner Juan Manuel Marquez vs Manny Pacquiao IV Unofficial: Danny Garcia vs Mauricio Herrera Juan Manuel Marquez vs Manny Pacquiao III
Garth Wood beating Anthony Mundine Mendy beating Luke Campbell Tony Thompson beating David Price was a shock at the time.. though it was terrible matchmaking that early in his career for Price by Frank Maloney
Fury/Klitschko closed at something like 4 to 1. Big surprise to me is that it went the distance. A big upset, but not huge. Marquez to stop Pacquiao was available at 8/1, I remember because I had a bet on it.
Marquez Pacquiao III - Disgusting robbery against an old shot warrior Marquez Pacquiao IV - :rofl :smoke
Have to put Fury vs Klitschko. Klitschko was considered invincible, and he was for 10 years. Another you could say is Stiverne vs Wilder. The bookies had it right, but the people here thought it would be easy work for Stiverne. As evidenced by the old vbookie thread: http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=526818 Also, it seems like you're just going by what the bookies said in order to justify what's considered an upset. Which is somewhat understandable, but isn't really the whole story.
Fury vs Klitschko Algieri vs Provodnikov Maidana vs Broner Sony Boy Jaro vs Pongsaklek Wonjongkam Ishida vs Kirkland Jason Litzau vs Celestino Caballero Marquez vs Pacquiao IV Peterson vs Khan Jezreel Corrales vs Takashi Uchiyama Tony Thompson vs David Price Tony Thompson vs Odlanier Solis Orlando Salido vs Vasyl Lomachenko Simpiwe Vetyeka vs Chris John Orlando Salido vs Juan Manuel Lopez Rubio vs Lemieux
Im going for Rigondeaux vs donaire. There are those who will say the writing was on the wall- but I really didn't see it coming.
