Weight classes. Always found it interesting. A 5 pound weight advantage on fight night in a flyweight fight is more substantial then any difference in size in a heavyweight fight with the rarest most exceptions.

When Jorge Arce went against Melchor Cob Castro back in 2004, the fight was scheduled as a junior flyweight.

In the 27 hours from initial weigh in to the fight Arce gained over 15% of his bodyweight back. Almost 20 pounds. He moved five weight divisions up, from junior fly to featherweight.

Eat your ****ing heart out, Jeff Fenech.

I also find people saying Arce having no chance against Darchinyan in General because he's "too small" worth a chuckle. :rofl:rofl:rofl

Also, Arce was over 6 inches taller then Castro.

You think the Pacquaio/Hoya size difference was huge? Watch this fight.

A lot of Arce's success came from his ability to cut weight and rehydrate.

He was so much stronger and physically bigger then most of his opponants generally..This is obviously going to be diminished as he moves up because guys who are doing something similiar will more then likely the same size or bigger then him come fight time.
I think his fight with Alvarez must have been another example he looked massive compared to Rosando in that fight.

I think Vic is sorta the same, and when he took on a big guy in Donaire it showed.

Raf Marquez was another guy known for this...I cant find anywhere to confirm it but Im sure I read once he gained 23 pounds after a weigh in once. It could have been the Chapo Vargas fight where he actually weighed in less then Chapo but Im not sure.
Again when he moved up to face Vasqeuz these physical advantages were greatly diminished and it showed.

Yeah, it's strange when fighters who live and die by weight draining meet someone even better at it then them.

Happened to Oscar De La Hoya as he moved up. Not as much as Rafael Marquez against Vasquez, but still.

How about Oscar Larios? He seemed even friggin' bigger then Vasquez!

Calderon vs Cazares II, Cazares went from 108 to 122 i believe... fight night it came down to

    Calderon(112)5'0 vs Cazares(122) 5'5

And people complain why he runs!

Fenech had to lose 15 pounds or so in two weeks prior to the Villasana fight.:lol:
