I aint a huge fan of both but i agree with this guy Calzaghe has the edge and will win in 12. This content is protected One of the world’s leading boxing agents says Joe Calzaghe will have too many skills for Mikkel Kessler when they likely meet this year to unify the world super-middleweight title. Aussie Angelo Hyder, who has worked as a cut man for Mike Tyson and set up world title fights for the likes of Danny Green, Sakio Bika, Gairy St Clair and Shannan Taylor, says the Welshman has too much nous to surrender his crown against the Viking Warrior. Hyder’s fighter Sakio Bika lost a brutal 12-rounder against Calzaghe (pictured) in Manchester and also spent close to a month sparring with Kessler in Denmark. Few experts in the world are as qualified as him to predict an outcome on the super-middleweight version of De La Hoya-Mayweather. ``On paper you have to favour Kessler by the simple fact he is so big and strong,’’ Hyder said. ``But Calzaghe has proved time and time again that when he needs to step up a gear and turn things around he can do it. He’s been world champ for 10 years and seen off a lot of guys who were supposed to be better than him. ``Hardly anyone gave Calzaghe a chance against Lacy who was supposed to be too big and strong for Calzaghe like Kessler but Calzaghe gave him a boxing lesson and made him look like a fool. Calzaghe has had everything go his way in Britain including referees like Mickey Vann who controlled the Sakio fight but I believe under any circumstances he can rise to the occasion against Kessler or any other super-middleweight.’’ Bika, who lost a 12-round brawl with Calzaghe but gave the great Welshman some anxious moments with his brutal style, spent four weeks in Copenhagen sparring Kessler before the great Dane’s title defence against Librado Andrade. He sees the outcome differently. ``Sakio thinks that Kessler has the advantage over Calzaghe in every area - size, strength and boxing ability,’’ Hyder said. ``He feels Kessler will be too physical for Calzaghe to overcome. ``But plenty of other fighters have underestimated Calzaghe’s talent and come off second best. ``I also think Calzaghe’s promoter Frank Warren has the ability to turn back adversity every time. ``Everyone thought Calzaghe would lose to Lacy and everyone thought Kostya Tszyu would hammer Ricky Hatton. But both times Frank’s fighters – fighting behind wild home crowds – turned things around.’’
The only advantage for Kessler is that Calzaghe is killin himslef to make weight and in reality, should of moved up years ago, apparently he hardly eats anything for upto two weeks to the fight, now a man of 35 years of age should not be doing things like this, so who knows. but lets get this on. Warren has nothing to loose Calzaghe is old they are not many fights left for him so he should take this fight if he wins him and Joe can make some real big money against Hopkins/Wright or if he looses there is not much more he could of made anyway with him being near the end of his career, its a pity really Calzaghe should of been making these moves after he destroyed Sheika 7 years ago, but we all know what Frank Warren is like.
Aye, if he wins... Still deserves alot of recognition for all he has done, if he loses, even if the superfights his talents required didn't happen as much; we all know how far he could have taken it regardless of the outcome of this match.
He'll win, don't worry, this one is easy to predict and I have no reserves or doubts that JC would not be victorious in a good, hard fought battle. It's nothing against Kessler either, JC's just a stylistic nightmare for him... I expect Kessler to give a decent account for himself despite that.
Have you been talking to Blocky? . We dont know what would be a nightmare for Kessler yet. He has never been troubled by anyone. Fact remains to be seem - what we do know is, that both are the best they have ever faced.
No, I don't talk to Blocky, I'll just send him a friendly bash here and there, but he doesn't bother responding to me anymore. We do know however that Kessler doesn't like odd angles, speed and swarming tactics, all 3 make him become overly tentative and this gives Calzaghe more oppurtunities. Kessler showed a good dimension at firing back at Andrade when being hit by a good angle'd shot from Andrade in the 11th instead of going into a shell, but Andrade's head was there to hit all night and he was as slow as a joke Margarito type.
"Everybody predicted Lacy to beat Calzaghe..." ... I don't know who he was talking to back then - But many predicted Calzaghe to win. Pretty even here as far as I remember - on knock-out.dk it was 13/3 in favour of Calzaghe.
Well it just seems like he has gotten to you concerning this fight it's not 3 weeks ago that you thought it would be a very close fight - almost impossible to predict. It's okay, my friend - it's okay to build up the confidence in your fighter. Kessler did show how he handles a pressure fighter, even if it was a wide open one. He showed he could alter his game. It has not been proven that Kessler has problems with swarming tactics nor speed - weird angles are always tough for any fighter. So is great footwork, ring generalship, smartness, precision power punches - all of which Kessler has in plenty. Nonetheless - we do know that JC will break his hands very early on. Kessler has nothing to fear in terms of being KOed. But lets see - I cant wait to see this fight regardless of who wins. Probs to the winner.
I was being nice, because I DO like Kessler and the Taylor and Pavlik fans were severely getting on my nerves, so I used Kessler as the example of one of the 3 "true elite's" from 160-175 crop of fighters, along with JC and bad Chad. Taylor and Pavlik are joke products of hype, hopefully they cancel each other out. Beyer's pathetic attempts at swarming got him tenative on a few occassions, Mundine's speed ****ed him over a bit before Mundine went tenative because Kessler would have cracked that china chin as he was coming on(if you hurt JC, he comes on harder) and then Andrade's odd angles did in fact have a minor effect. He has yet to deal with JC's footspeed(in my opinion, his biggest weapon, because it's not RIVALED by anyone above 154), and has yet to deal with all 3 of those factors in an ELITE package. He busted his hand in the 5th vs. Lacy, didn't seem to phase him from contuining the beautiful thrashing. He even broke it more so in the 9th, but he then continued and floored a battered opponent in the 12th. The point is that JC at his very best is one hell of a ****ing warrior and breaking his hand won't ruin his onslaught.
