He trained Ken Norton after Eddie Futch left to train Joe Frazier after Yank Durham died. He also trained Lamon Brewster, he's been dead for about 15 years.
Anybody know anymore about Bill? How good of a trainer he was etc. Any info is much appreciated.

From LA, trained (at some point) Michael Dokes, Jerry Quarry and Mike “The Bounty” Hunter.

If he wasn’t a-list as a trainer, he was close to it.

I dont believe he ever trained Frazier. After Yank died Futch became manager and trainer and picked up Benton as an assistant along the way. Fraziers last fight against Cummings he had Val Colbert and Marvis in the Corner.
I think Norton said in his book Slayton was a good trainer but that he should have never parted with Futch because that's when he stopped learning.
