What would you pay to tour that game room of his on Squirrel Hill? It's just one of those things that happen once in awhile.
I read a great article on Conn from an old SI I think called something like the Pugilist and the Blonde detailing Billy's career and romance with his eventual wife Mary Louise. It was a great read and showed Billy's take no crap nature. He even slugged his future father-in-law (an ex-pug whom he didn't get along with clearly) prior to one of the Louis fights, breaking his hand. He still got the girl, a stunner of course and had a legendary career and happy marriage. Conn rates highly on the "man I wish I could be" meter.
Actually just did a quick peruse of the article and Conns father-in-law was an ex Major league baseballer not a boxer. I'd post it if I could work out how to copy and paste it on my phone. It's a great read.
Still have that issue. One of the best articles ive ever read. That single article is better than the 2 books on Conn. Him and his brother fought each other into adulthood lol
Well, that's not good for Billy C, one of my boxing heroes...another one of my heroes, Dwight D. Eisenhower...great president & general,..he get's knocked down a few pegs with me because he shot at stray cats with a pistol. I hate it when my heroes fail like that.
Billy Conn has always been to me, in the squared circle,...the very living spirit of the WW2 fighting man..who stepped up to whip the Axis enemies.
This was in 1990, three years before Conn passed away. https://www.upi.com/Archives/1990/0...Conn-tries-to-break-up-robbery/3372632034000/
