No, but it's about having some technique, at least. Wepner didn't have much.

I think he would aquit himself fine.....He would have beaten most of the contenders and would have had trouble with Ali and Frazier...watching the Peralta/Lyle fight, I think he would have beaten Lyle and was speedier enough to trouble Foreman but could he have overcome the power...possibly (Young did and he was not as fast of hand or foot ) I dont think he could have gotten past Ali or Frazier but at his best he would have hung in with them and made it close.

Of course today Conn would have the option of fighting in any division from supermiddleeweight upward. We would almost certainly be looking at a two or three division champion.

I think he probably would have thrown his hat into the ring at heavyweight.

    Too Irish to resist it.

    Hi Bummy,

    GREAT POST!!!

I agree with you on all of your predictions - If Jerry Quarry and
Jimmy Young could outbox Lyle, then so could Conn.

The two-fisted free swinging young Foreman would have been more
difficult, but former lightheavyweight Peralta gave him a very tough
    fight so......

Frazier would have been on Conn and applied too much pressure for
    Conn to deal with.

Ali-Conn would have been interesting. Ali had the edges in size, strength
and reach, BUT Conn had a very good chin and was a great bodypuncher.

Tho Conn was not a big puncher, he did have a great snapping left hook,
which he could use to good effect against Ali.

I agree that Ali would likely prevail but Conn would have been competitive!!!
