    Never understood why Billy never carried on boxing against Joe Louis..he had The Brown Bomber beat by any standard...came closing to dropping Joe..why he decided to stay in the pocket we will never know..Great fighter by even the little footage we have of him..The Pittsburg Flash.

    He was in the pocket with him throughout the fight. His plan was never to box.

    Yeah the footage lays that out he pretty much fought the entire fight with the same game plan. Another myth parroted by Sugar that he had boxed and then decided to slug it out. He stood right in there for entire fight. Yeah his legs were probably tired by round 13 whose wouldn’t be in there with Louis. Absolutely terrific fight and one where the little man nearly pulled it off.
    Shame the war ended basically what could of been an even more brilliant career.

    Many fighters who came back from WW 2 weren't the same fighters that left for it in 1941-42.

    Former Lt. Heavyweight Champ....beat 10 future or former world champions...ALMOST beat Joe Louis in June 1941....KO'd in the 13th. Under today's rules with 12 round title fights?.....brilliant boxer!!!
