I give him a live chance against beating some of the older slower moving veterans of that period. Tony Tucker, Tim Witherspoon, George Foreman and even younger Ray Mercer would be potential wins for Billy assuming he didn't get caught with something big by those guys. I can't favor him over Holy, Lewis, Bowe, Tyson or Moorer. Not too sure about Ruddock.
Some of those guys listed were absolute dog sh!t in 1991. Witherspoon was going through a horribly slobby stage of his career again. He looked awful against Carl Williams. His only other fight in '91 was a TKO against Art Tucker who was never any good. 'spoon didn't exactly look sharp in that one. By July 1992 he managed to lose to Everett Martin, who was just a fat super-middleweight. Moorer had only just moved up from light-heavy. Foreman was painfully slow on his feet and could be outboxed. Tony Tucker struggled to beat little Orlin Norris in 1991. In fact, looked like he was narrowly outboxed to me. Lennox Lewis would probably beat Conn but he was green in 1991 and it's hard to say exactly how he'd do against Conn's style. Bowe was kind of green too. I think Conn would outboxed Ray Mercer. Razor Ruddock gets a lot of credit for brawling with Tyson and losing but how he'd do someone of Conn's style, impossible to say. Holyfield and Tyson should certainly beat Conn.
Conn's in and out game worked vs a slow footed Joe Louis, but Louis was not very good vs movers. I think Mercer or the older Witherpsoon or Foreman are Conn's best chance for a " W ". Best guess he wins 2 times, but gets badly beaten at least 4-5 times
Tucker fought Lewis in 93 and went the distance and gave Lewis a competitive fight. But he gets blown out by Conn?
He looks like the basic amateur if you want my opinion...none of the guys on the list is going to fight with slow shuffles with there guard down waiting to counter like Louis did.Conn wouldn't even be a good sparring partner for ANY one of those guys, its foolish to think otherwise. How can you watch limited footage of Conn who needed someone to stand still to look good he had light punches thrown ,he wouldn't be a power puncher in any remote way,he had, decent speed/technique ,but to think he does well against huge movers who had chins? I would love to see him fight 260 foreman who took 20 unanswered shots from Holyfield fight Conn ,not even 180 pounds and win? It would look like a cartoon of Conn getting pasted into the canvas and breaking the ring floor with a clubbing thud to the top of his head after he spins him around in circles ,I have to thank kevin for a truly more than entertaining thread ,now I know who more of the delusional posters are for sure,i cant belleve some of what ive seen on here..lol.... nutnut:nut
Sorry if I didn't get beyond you saying that the guy who whipped Zale, Lesnevich, Apostoli, Yarosz, Krieger, Bettina, Savold and others looks like a basic amateur. Which week was it that you began to start following the sport?
The problem is those guys WOULDNT be ranked at HW either and certainly not even boxers in the 90's! The fact is you read the whole thing and knew there was nothing more to be said, even for you who likes to twist things at times, becuase my post makes sense ,unlike the myth and outlandish notion that 170 conn defeats these guys, let alone one of them.
