Great matchup Vic...I have no trouble seeing the fast and clever Conn pulling off a major upset vs Ingo. A 15 round decision for Conn, who outboxes Ingo for a narrow but clean decision.

It depends. Johansson at his best was unheralded but dangerous, not the well-known terror that Joe Louis was. Conn came to the fight more prepared than ever due to Louis's reputation, but Johansson flattened Machen and Patterson because they under-estimated him as a threat.

Johansson could KO about anyone if he caught them right, Conn is no different.

I'm just saying that Ingo would have never gotten him..and Conn would have done basically what he did for 12 rounds vs Louis.

If I had to put money down, I would bet on Conn.

I would have some doubts about this pick, for the reasons that others have outlined.

You could say the same about Eddie Machen and Liston. The difference is that Johansson had no such reputation and Machen nor Conn could appropriately prepare for his punching power.

Johansson would look to time Conn with his jab and walk Conn down for the KO

Lucky that Ingo didn't kill Machen.....ref let it go way too long.

Wonder why Cus let Paterson even get in the ring with Ingo in an unprepared state?

The fight would greatly resemble the Jones-Ruiz affair, except of course that the stakes would be a bit higher for Conn since Ingo had that Bingo of his that was so dangerous.

You severely underestimate Conn..Ingo wouldn't be walking anyone down. Of course Ingo could take him out if he landed that big right, but the Billy Conn that had such great success for 12 rounds against a far more lethal punching machine in Joe Louis wouldn't have been able to elude the decidedly inferior Johansson?

In a rematch with Ingo do you think that Machen would have fought the same way again? I think the Liston version of Machen would have been a very different story....barring the psychologogical effect that horrifying one round would have left in his head.

I think Machen beats Ingo 9 out of ten and their match up was a fluke ....

If Conn could survive like he did against Louis back in 1941...he still has to watch out for "Ingo's Bingo"...but I think if Conn has a good night...he can win by UD...
