I agree with the consensus here...but I don't think it's a foregone conclusion for a Conn decision going away. It's closer than people think. Jake will find his way inside quite a bit. The difference in LaMotta and Zale, is that when Jake advances, he stays lower, and closes the distance while jabbing...and if Conn loses his head a little, and fires too many lead rights, LaMotta gets on the inside even easier. Conn doesn't have the offensive arsenal that a Robinson possesses. Still I'll take Conn, he wins by ultilizing his jab and keeping a distance for the majority of the fight. Conn decision...close decision.
Conn takes the great majority of the fights they would have. Honestly, look at how Conn performed against Joe Louis. He came within the smallest margins of becoming heavyweight champion of the world. LaMotta would be a hard fight in different ways, but Conn still takes it.
I would favor Conn over the Robinson that LaMotta fought. Conn was 25 to 30 lbs heavier. Robinson was the better p4p puncher but Conn actually knocked out quality men close to 200 lbs. Conn lost only to four champions--Corbett, Krieger, Yarosz, and Louis--after reaching the age of 18. He also defeated all of them except Louis. LaMotta's record for all the hype includes losses to far from champions such as Cecil Hudson or Robert Villemain
I will go with Conn in this one. Jake would, no doubt, try to pressurise Billy but it wouldn't work. Conn was not only faster and the far better boxer but also the bigger man.
This is no offence to Jake, but Billy Conn would have outclassed him, not just would have beaten him. This man nearly beat Joe Louis, and no smaller man would have beaten him, no matter who.
Conn by UD I dont thank there ia any Chance that Lamotta KO's Conn in this fight and that is what im sure he would have to do to win
Let's not forget that Conn's boxing ability was not only good, it was superb. And he was about 6'2. Jake was 5'8. Little bulls, even formidable ones like Lamotta, aren't expected to beat big matadors of the caliber of Conn.
Conn had excellent boxing skills but lets not forget Jake could crowd you....I favor Conn in a close one ...Remember Jake KO'd the 6"2 Bob Satterfield....Conn in close one...Jake makes him uncomfortable
