If it hadn't being for hand injury s and fall out with his manager s, Conteh could have been one of greatest British fighters imo. And if not for losing his temper, Conn could have been the heavyweight champion of the world! For the Lightheavy Championship, who takes it?
Very difficult. Conn is notably smaller in terms of reach and that's not for ignoring given the sheer beauty and quality of Conteh's left hand. Also troubling is how limited Billy looks in the footage we have of him at LHW. I suppose we give him a pass for the Louis footage. I guess i can see Conteh controlling Conn early in the fight and it's a question then of how quickly Conn can breach and whether or not he can then dominate. I guess, reluctantly, I'll pick him to gather enough rounds over the long haul. Would pick Conteh over 10 though.
Yes and the only name I recognise is Henry Cooper and that ain't even the real Henry Cooper, nah I have recognised some of them, but only because I'm always on boxrec, he doesn't really have any stand out wins, the best performance of his career is his Louis 1 fight best wins are Gus Lesnevich, Fred Apostoli, Bob Pastor, Tony Zale,
Bro, he defeated 10 different champions over the course of a career that spanned from Welterweight to Heavyweight. Remember, this wasn’t the alphabet soup era with 4 or 5 recognized champions at each of 17 (soon to be 18) different weight classes. 5 of the 10 men I mentioned are in the International Boxing Hall of Fame. He was arguably the best Lt. Heavyweight and Middleweight of the 1930s. His resume is a bit too spread out to rank him among the greatest Middleweights of the era, but head to head he was at least on a par with any.
My honest thoughts when reading this thread were spot on. Someone's gonna overrate the **** outta Conteh, and Bujia's mind will explode if he to pick one to lose.
