Louis's management considered making these two face off, for a shot at the champion.

In the end they decided, that it was more lucrative to avoid derailing either of them, and fight them both of them.

So what if they had changed their mind?

Nova was all hype. Conn would have boxed his ears off.

I think that Conn would have outboxed Nova, but Lou was dangerous puncher who could box.

Kev, a little hard on the old Lou Nova there aren't ya?. I think the only think hyped about Lou was that Yogi/Cosmic punch crap. Which was probably very good for the gate going into the Louis fight. His talent certainly wasn't hype. Beating Max Baer (twice), Tommy Farr, Gunnar Barlund (twice), Pat Comiskey, Sonny Boy Walker, Lee Ramage and Phil Brubaker doesn't suggest he shied away from much. Everything I've gleaned on him suggests he had oodles of heart, could box, punch, body punch, but with an apparent weakness with cuts. I think a little too much heart as well when it was apparent he was fighting again only weeks after engaging in a contest where he was cut (sometimes over both eyes). He could not be giving his body time to heal. But this was the game during the depression. You fought to put food on the table and you had to engage in a lively contest before that live audience or you wouldn't be asked back. Billy Conn on the other hand, only seemed to lack the big punch. He too had oodles of heart to engage the big boys at his size deficit, and did very well beating guys like Bob Pastor and Lee Savold. I see this fight as very close and wouldn't be betting the house on either.
