Very odd listening to folks say Conn could not box. And Kessler breathed in the very same Breath. I'll still take Conn.
BIG DEE HERE= Conn by 8th rd KO after giving Kessler a boxing lesson as he forgot more about fighting and boxing than Kessler has or ever will know. Senya13 once again talks out his ass about something he doesn`t know about. Billy Conn wasn`t very talented, who the **** are you trying to tell your bull**** crap to as he was one of the best pure boxers ever to fight in the Lt Heavyweight division. I have him ranked in the 10th spot as the IBRO has him ranked 9th but I have Harry Greb ranked at 6th in front of Tommy Loughran. Conn fought Joe Louis to a standstill for 12 rds before getting KOed in the 13th. Do you think Kessler could do that, no way, he would make it past the 3rd rd with Louis as Joe Louis would kill Kessler and they would carry Kessler out of the ring. YOU KNOW LITTLE OF BOXING HISTORY AND EVEN LESS OF THE FIGHTERS THAT FOUGHT THERE. IT SHOWS EVERY TIME YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH ABOUT RING HISTORY. YOU KNOW ABOUT THE LAST 20 YEARS IN THE SPORT AND THAT`S ALL YOU KNOW.
I gotta tell you these 2 hour gruelling night boxing sessions with intense sparring.....Its so hard to come on here afterward and type and think lol. im about to fall asleep. Conn beatts Kessler cause ...............zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
BIG DEE Do you have "Billy Conn - The Pittsburgh Kid" by Paul Kennedy, AND can read objectively past the author's like of the fighter he's writing about? If you don't, please, keep quiet whenever you talk about things YOU have no idea about.
Personally i find Eddie Futch likely the most insightful boxing figure i have ever read. He's an absolute genius IMO, but each to their own of course.
Genius, yes, but just like any other man, he may have his likes and dislikes, which affect his opinion. Based on fight reports, I don't see Conn being as special as some people claim he is. And looking good (but not great) against not very well prepared Louis in one fight, doesn't mean you stand out as much at lower divisions or in all-time sense. Gene Tunney looked good against faded Dempsey, but he didn't stand out as much skill-wise at light heavyweight, where several of his opponents were his equals or superiors as boxers.
After two years of intense training, he's finishing his first year with a W7-L6 record. Really talented boxers were starting much better than that.
BIG DEE HERE= Billy Conn was a greater middleweight than a Lt. Heavyweight when you get right down to it as he beat most of the guys that held the middleweight title in the 30s at one time or another. No champion would defend the title against Billy Conn for that same reason as he would have held the middleweight title all thru 30s.
