What if Billy Conn had fought Ali during those years. Many, myself included, favor Ali to win. My question is how would the fight likely go down, how long would Conn last and by what method would Ali win (ie UD, TKO etc) that is if you favor Ali. If not, give your explanation for a Billy Conn win.

I think that Ali dominates and wins by late TKO. Conn was fantastic boxer, and Ali was too, but also much bigger and harder hitting. It would look a bit like Ali-Patterson 1.

My feelings exactly. Ali a bit too much for Conn. Maybe Machen was more his compatible.

Conn and Machen would be an interesting bout.

Ali just too fast. Ali outspeeds Conn for a TKO win in eight rounds.

Absolutely. Ali's jab was measured to be much more quicker than SRR..... a very quick middleweight.

Wow. How's that possible? I'd be just as surprised if they said Robinson had a harder punch than Ali. It seems like the smaller man would be faster due to having less mass to haul around.

In the May 5, 1969 Sports Illustrated, Ali’s jab was measured with an omegascope. Ali’s jab, it was found, could smash a balsa board 16.5 inches away in 19/100 of a second. It actually covered the distance in 4/100 of a second, which is the blink of an eye. Jimmy Jacobs, who owned the world’s largest collection of fight films, said that on film tests with a synchronizer Ali’s jab was faster than that of Sugar Ray Robinson. Jacobs contended that Ali was not only the fastest heavyweight, but also the fastest fighter he ever saw on film.

Conn had an excellent chin but he is just outsized here.

Since Conn's jab wasn't measured we don't know who was faster.

Id give prime Floyd Patterson the edge over Ali for handspeed ,I doubt Ali's handspeed was appreciably quicker than Michael Dokes or Tyson's and there have certainly been fighters of lower weights that were faster.
    Jones Jnr
    Taylor
    Norris
    Leonard
    For example.
