Thats how I view it also, Conn started to feint with his left to then throw the quick right, something he had done over and over, this time Louis as you said saw and timed it.
I don't see the similarities to Marciano-LaStarza II. I didn't think LaStarza had a choice in succumbing to Marciano. He got broken down, literally. Always thought of Arturo Gatti was like a modern Rocky Graziano. The way Graziano was the most popular action-packed star in the 40's-50's of MSG.
Hey Pete whats happenin?? :good The LaStarza thing - that was kind of my point - in the end I don't think Conn would have much of a choice in succumbing to Marciano because Rock would break him down literally. The Gatti-Graziano thing? The only similarities i see between them to are both their surnames start with a 'G'. Other the that Gatti was the polar opposite of Graziano as a fighter
Not much, things are going good, how about you? Gotcha on the comparison now. Well Gatti was a boxer-puncher. That turned slugger, to boxer-puncher, to slugger, to boxer-puncher again. Graziano was an action packed slugger. I was making the comparisons based on how they were fan-favorites and entertaining fighters.
Gatti-Graziano total fan favourites probably most popular picks as being the most exciting fighters in their eras for those who saw them respectively I'm guessing How come not much going good?? :? Hope whatever it is sorts itself out? - keep your gloves up and your ass off the deck brother :good
Conn's movement enables him to build up a substantial points advantage until the middle phases of thef fight. Marciano's persistent pressure would start paying off around the tenth, leading to Conn being saved by the referee around the eleventh.
You answered you own question. What the hell was BIlly Conn doing slugging with Joe Louis ? Billy Conn was no puncher at 175. He was a lightning fast, rock jawed, gutsy boxer. His entire strategy was to out speed and frustrate Louis, not dare slug with him. Slugging was not his plan going in nor was it how he managed to pull ahead in the bout. Billy doubled down, thinking Louis was tired or shot and fought way too aggressive, taking the fight to Louis time and again. It was a shift in strategy that proved fatal.
Haha glad everything OK - thought things weren't looking too good for a minute there - thankfully you'd just missed a comma haha comma's can be important sometimes - peace :rasta
That's it, move the goalposts to hide the fact that you've been completely exposed. You said that Conn got knocked out because he got "cocky" and "aggressive". This is false. As the film clearly showed and as I explicitly stated, Conn was doing very well in the round when he was fighting "aggressively" and getting in exchanges with Louis. He was knocked out when Louis happened to time him for a right hand, which had absolutely nothing to do with Conn's fight strategy whatesoever. He got hit with a really good shot, and Louis put him away. Simple as.
I agree. Actually Conn spent much of the fight engaging Louis on the inside, standing toe-to-toe for significant spells and out-fighting Louis with speed. It's a myth that he was all stick-and-move all the way.
Conn was as tough as Marciano, a better boxer, and had a heck of a chin. Still, his lack of firepower might mean he'd come up short in this one. I'd favour Rocky, but only slightly.
I don't think Conn would be blown out like Harry "Kid" Mathews. I do think Marciano's relentless pressure would start to take its toll around the 6th round or so though. Marciano KO 8
