I think this would be a good Costello who was strong with a good punch against Ward who was tough as they come and also was pretty strong esp to the body. Who would you pick?

Ward picks up a version of the LtWW title via a body shot blow.

Costello was better all-around than the wildly inconsistent (but often wildly entertaining) Ward.

Costello could box enough to keep Ward following him around and pull away for a decision.

Costello by decision. Peak for peak he was at a higher level.

Costello was an interesting guy....probably a little "overlooked" today.

Billy Costello showed that Mike Jones could manage and wasn't just part of the waco twins. Despite his av ko % Billy could punch and his title challengers opponents Shields , Mamby and Haley were quite sturdy. Billy didn't have a great chin but Ward best punch was left hook to the body. Ward had enough heart for a brigade of marines but he was overrated because of his memorable Gatti trilogy. Billy on pts.
Billy said '' A champion doesn't have to measure himself against the world . All he has to do is measure himself fight by fight against opponent at a time . "

Most fans underestimate Costello because of his destruction to Arguello and L.Smith. Personally it should be a indicator how much Arguello still had in the tank after the Pryor losses and the power he carried at jr.welt , and Smith fought until 1999 successfully.

Costello struggled with speed and-or power and Ward didn't have enough of either.
