I don't get why there hasn't been an uproar amongst boxing officials.

I mean in terms of Dib punching a downed boxer.

But what do you mean uproar? I'd guess the NSW BA would look at the other night for review but they won't publicly get stuck into an official - especially before any kind of hearing

I suppose you're right but I wouldn't have expected them to 'get stuck' into the ref. I guess my criticism is in regards to boxing meaning very little to the Australian public. I haven't really seen or heard much of this in the media. .. nyeh..

Is this called a backhanded compliment or offer?
Sounds like an insult in any language.

Surely Dibb does not honestly believe he won this fight?

This offer (if Yamuguchi tells why he thinks he was dealt a manifest injustice) tells you a lot about Dibb's inability to deal with big time boxing.
The right thing to do would be to disown the title and offer a rematch without condition.

Yeah hard to put a finger on it I guess - is it just "Oh well, that's boxing?" Boxing isn't mainstream in this country, most people wouldn't care less I guess

A fair and thankfully prompt response after what happened on the night.

ahh.. I don't know. It doesn't feel like an apology if he's cashing in on a re-match that would've happened anyway.

Gracious step from Billy and his team! well done to his management team. I can't imagine many boxers willing to offer a rematch so quickly. i disagree with boxoncottonon implying there is a condition. Reading over it, i think Billy pretty much says that he is willing to offer Yamaguchi a rematch and in saying that, I suppose it would be a little too much for some people to acknowledge anything Billy does.
At the end of the day, even as a fan of Billy, I am disappointed at the way the fight panned out, but I'll tell you what, it takes some courage to make a statement like the one to start this thread.
I'm rubbing my hands in anticipation of a big Dib/Yamaguchi II - all that's left now is for the offer to be accepted.

i don't see it as an apology. I read it as saying, "I'm not happy either and I'm willing to rematch"

Where was Dibb's apology/remorse for his disgracefull king hit on his opponent ? And Dibb should not be congratulated for giving the guy a rematch when it was a laughable robbery in the first place.

It's hard to envisage a protest from Yamaguchi's team would have been anything less than successful - but Dib's team's move will save the time and unecessary red tape a protest would have entailed.

Still can't believe Billy loaded up and hit him again after Yamaguchi was down though.
