I think he was bumped up the ranks when he defeated bantamweight(weight limit 53.5 kg) Bandung Patavikorngym of Thailand, even though Will is Super Feather (weight limit 59.0 kg),

Might also add that none of Bandungs bouts have been verifyed and its most likely some have been falsifyed fights recorded http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=347142&cat=boxer which is very common in thailand due to corruption. They basicly pay an offical to falsify a record book, usually these guys are former kickboxers with very limited boxing skills and experiance. They get a big payday for coming over to AUS to fight, they earn about 2,500 baht per month which is around $75 AUD so you can imagine these guys jumping at the chance to get a fight in AUS, even for $1000 AUD they jump at it, some have been paid as less as $500 AUD per fight, travel expenses of course included.

Check out the bloke Will is fighting next http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=421102&cat=boxer

Looks like a good scrap right? but then have a look at the guys records he has fought, pretty much every single one of his fights have been missmatches, against opponents with a string of losses, then when he steps up against a bloke that doesnt have a string of losses he gets stoped. Easy fight for Will imo.

After flogging the #4 rated Labao, Tomlinson was advanced to the #2 WBO rating.

Quit looking for things that just ain't there. He's an active fighter; fighting more often than most rated fighters. Holding his #2 position means keeping active, whilst waiting for the shot against Ricky Burns, or fighting for the vacant title should Burns relinquish.
Every fight sees an improvement in Tomlinsons game. He has the brains to apply new technique in each bout, and work on weaknesses. When the time comes, he'll be more than prepared.
