Graham said: "I heard some terrible rumours but there was nothing in them whatsoever. Why would it be anything? Why would there be any reason for Ricky to get rid of me? It was ridiculous."

And the trainer admits that although he went through some "dark days" in the wake of the Las Vegas fight, he never doubted for a moment that either himself or Hatton would bounce back to the top.
Graham added: "I was really depressed for weeks. I shut myself away and thought about the fight. But I never doubted myself or Ricky. Not for a single moment.
Graham is clearly angry about the criticism Hatton received for some aspects of his performance against Mayweather, and what he sees as a growing campaign to discredit both his and his fighter's achievements.
"I might not have doubted myself or Ricky, but I doubted some other people," added Graham. "People I thought were friends, but who had the knives out. After that fight, there are a lot of people who I never want to speak to again.
"People forget that Ricky is still the linear light-welterweight champion of the world. He didn't lose that title in the ring that night, he stepped up in weight to fight a great champion.
"The more I see the fight the more I blame the referee. Joe Cortez used to be a friend but now I wouldn't shake his hand. He stopped Ricky from fighting.
"If Ricky fought Mayweather again, without Cortez, I'm convinced he would win."

As soon as Ricky retires Billy will once again become an extremely small blip in the footnotes of British boxing.

He probably had the best stable in boxing late 90's other then Brendon Ingles. He's thrown all his eggs into one basket with Ricky but obviously with great sucess.

He ****ed up Macklin because he had him fighting at a pace that the kid simply couldnt handle and wasnt comfortable with. I feared for his life when he got stretched out. He went out on his shield but he was absolutely spent. Not every fighters the same surely even "bankrupt" Billy knows that.

From what I recall, and I'll bet you I'm right, he was urging Macklin to compose himself between rounds. Macklin was too psyched and wouldn't listen. 'Bankrupt Billy' indeed. Bet he's forgotten more about boxing in the last fortnight than you've ever known.

Graham only trains a certain amount of fighters because his body can't handle it. Old injuries. He had to pass on Jamie Moore because of it, and the fact Moore is a leftie which would exarcebate the problem.

If you stopped obsessing you might see the bigger picture, jesus H christ, what is wrong with some of you people?

I saw Macklins performance. The result was massively spectacular. It was Macklins worse loss to date and he absorbed a massive amount of punishment.

    Ermmm, we all saw that.

His tactics and approach were in contrast to what Graham was saying in the corner though.

You claimed Graham sent him out to fight like that - I don't recall that being the case. Not from what he was being told inbetween rounds.

Maybe Moore was simply better than Macklin and thats why he lost.

It was a horrible KO though.

When I was 14 I trained at the phoenix gym a few times and present were Maurice Core, Peter Judson, Paul Burke, Ricky Hatton, Carl Thompson, Micheal Brodie and the Awesome Ensley Bingham.... seriously hard, talented men.
