Graham wanted to fight Robinson...but never recieved the opportunity...Let's say he gets his shot at the current P4P... 12 rounds at welterweight...Two boxers from different eras, one uses 'old school' techniques....one is 'old school'... Floyd looks brilliant so far...but would he against the clever Billy Graham? (sweet scientist...this one is for you ...:good)
I'll let some others handle this one dpw417. But let's just put it this way: if I was to give my opinion, I'd be labeled a Floyd basher :good
I think it's pretty obvious that there aren't too many fighters around today like Billy Graham. I think he would have brought a different set of problems to the table for Floyd to contend with than what he (Floyd) has to deal with in his actual career so far. Not to disrespect Floyd, or to be accused of being a "hater" or a "basher" but I think Graham may have had a chance against Floyd. I know for sure that he wouldn't have crumbled from Floyd's punches like Hatton did, and was a hell of alot more savvy and clever than anybody Pretty Boy has ever faced.
I'll take Graham. He was never down-and I don't think he even staggered.I think Floyd could forget about landing his "check hook"-and if he did,Graham had an iron chin.
the big challenge against mayweather is to get close enough to do some harm. The guy holds and elbows like the best of them. On the way in he has a very sharp right counter that really stopped Hatton working in close. Standing off him with a decent jab and forcing him to come to you is probably a more effective tactic. So yes Billy Graham would have a decent shot against Floyd. His lack of ko power would be a handicap as the fight progressed but if he kept his discipline he could grind out a decision win.
If Graham gets close enough to effect Floyd, he could probably score a unanimous decision over a 15 round verdict. However, If Floyd keeps him at bay, he would take the win by unanimous decision, but only for a 12 round fight.
I agree with the consensus, that Graham would beat Mayweather. The key to beating Floyd, I believe, is in making him do things he doesn't want to do, like making him lead, pulling him out of his shell. Graham was a very smart boxer and I think he would be able to do that.
