Though I agree with you, it was amazing how many people on this forum got sucked in and climbed aboard the Briggs train going into the bout.

It was all based on blind faith and reputation, and people even thought that Briggs being overweight was going to help him!

In hindsight, always a wonderful thing, there wasn't a single sign going into this fight that Briggs was going to be competive - NOT ONE!

 

in billys defence, Briggs was going to fight no matter what, i think he would have gone in with noone in his corner, as his friend, billy was probably trying to give him the best possible chance.

 

Green & Hussein both share eqaul blame in this fiasco and to a much lesser extent Briggs.
There has to be little doubt in anyones minds that the Briggs team were aware of serious underlying issues and doubts as to Briggs ability to take this fight or any fight.

The continuing belief that because Briggs said he was ok is the precursor to a sanctioned fight going ahead is very weak to argue with.

Rumor which is fast fading into law is that Briggs was KO'd some 3-4 weeks back during sparring and he was rattled and everyone in close proximaty knew this, some were very worried.

Why hasn't more attention in this whole argument been paid o the professionalism of Briggs team. Without a team this fight would NOT have happened period. Serious questions need to be asked of everyone involved wtb Briggs.

There will no doubt be a inqiury at a much higher level than can be handled by the IBO as serious betting discrepecies were involved.

When this comes about let's hope the **** is flushed away from the sport.

I think you are being far too harsh on Green and his part in all of this. His responsibilities end at the point where the fight was negotiated and made.

There are certain things we do know, the rest we are just speculating on.
Yes, Green knew Briggs would be reasonably out of condition, after a 3 year lay off, it's fair to assume that.
Green would also have known that given this, Briggs should be a relatively easy matchup.
That coupled with the fact he was a big name would have made the decision to fight him from a risk/rewards ratio very good. That fact Briggs was well respected in Australia made the decision even more enticing.

Now, to assume Green knew exactly how bad his problems were is making a big judgement. Briggs would have been doing everything to convince Green he was fit to fight and as Green had absolutely nothing to do with his prep, training etc, he wouldn't have seen any better.

These guys are professional fighters, Briggs to all of our knowledge (despite any neurological issues which are physical) is mentally sound, intelligent and able to asses the risks here fairly. The guy up until this fight has always been respected as a great commentator, partly as he appears rational and clear headed - qualities which we should assume give him the ability to see if he is up for such a challenge.

The situation with Billy Hussein and Co is a little more complex. As a trainer, Billy and his off siders would have had COUNTLESS opportunities to judge whether he was fit to fight. Through their communication with him as well as how capable he looked when sparring.
It can't be argued that as employees of his and professional cornermen they had a massive responsibility to look after their guy.
Whether they thought he was Ok, or it was simply a matter of "we're getting paid and he is going to do it anyway", a burden of care they had was lacking to some degree.

It's clear though the largest responsibility lies with Briggs. Unfortunately it is likely the same stupid logic that allowed him to blow all his money and be in such a desperate situation (I can't believe people are using this as an excuse), was the same applied to take the fight.

People blaming others here as Briggs was "desperate" are really pushing things. I wonder if these are the same bleeding hearts that excuse drug addicts for home invasions as they 'needed" to get their fix.......I hope not.
A what stage do we acknowledge that the responsibility lies squarely with the person who lead themselves on the path?

There is no doubt Green should get some flack for organising and promoting a fight which was so heavily stacked in his favour, as boxing fans we deserve a contest after all, let's not forget that many still backed Briggs. The actual performance Briggs put on rests with him and to a small extent his corner, but no one else.

 

Green is not on Mundines level at ANYTHING.

Green tried hard to get a decent fight going and was knocked back by a few, he stated ealier this year that he wouldn't fight Briggs unless he had a couple of warm up fights, obviously with all the breakdowns of other fights he took the Briggs fight as it was the best he had left, Danny and Molly both new that briggs was training crap but by that stage were too far into the promo to back out, green went in with good intentions but it backfired, Danny knew Briggs was going bad but it was too late to do anything

 

Rod Waterhouse said Green demanded that Briggs cant have a warm up fight first :think
