    But turned it down....

I wonder why he would do this...

Maybe he wasn't so confident he could win.

He could have won the IBF strap and then gone on to fight the winner of Andy Lee vs Peter Quiillin for the WBO strap.

It would have done wonders for his career.

If he'd have fought for and won the IBF, would he still be next in line to fight for the WBO though?

Fish eyes and the WBO go hand in hand, so no surprise anyway.

Did not think of that but most likely reason.

Harmful to Billy Joe's career really because they probably could have got Hassam over here but not Quillin if he beat Lee.

I don't think Billy or is handlers are the sharpest tools in the shed and this is the THIRD time the caravan dweller has refused a World title shot.He best check out what his promoters or managers explaination for this is.
Three strikes and youre out is the usual rule.

Wise move if you ask me. I make HNN out to be better than BJS - and I like Billy Joe a lot. Also reckon HNN now beats Andy Lee or Quillin.

Kind of surprising that Saunders has now turned down 3 world title fights. Just seems like his team around him aren't confident in him winning a title, it's not even like he turned down Golovkin.

He is Euro level at best.

Way too small for the boys at MW, lacks power and experience.

He will earn more fighting Quillan or Lee. Simple as that.

BJS was on yesterday's Bunce programme on Boxnation - he said that he would lose his mandatory status with the WBO if he took the IBF route with N'Dam - no prospect of a reunification. And the financials of staying with the WBO route are supposedly much better. When he took the step-aside money to allow Lee vs Quillan to happen, BJS says he got very good financial guarantees whatever the outcome (50% split if against Lee, still very lucrative if against Quillan) plus any money from the undercard fight in the meantime. Not exactly the glory game, but far more prudent than taking a **** purse split against N'Dam and losing any possibility of a fight with Lee with every traveller in the UK queuing for a ticket.

Cheers for posting the ins and outs, obviously makes much more sense to stick with the WBO.

I would have thought this is obvious. He took money not to fight for the WBO until after Lee/Quillin, I expect there's something in the contract about not fighting for another title in the meantime.
