Always been really impressed with Billy Joe Saunders. Looking at some of the positives of his record. Record: 21-0 Opponents: 283-174-17 combined 5 unbeaten opponents Belts: Southern area Commonwealth British European WBO inter-continental He's been 12 rounds 6 times He's been in 3 big 50/50 fights putting it all on the line Good amateur who fought in team GB in the Olympics There are a few negatives though: He's missing a fight with a real top ranked opponent. He's also never headlined his own big show. But overall I think his record ins very good leading him to a world title fight next year. He's developed well and it should give him a good chance to win a title. I just want to see him headline a big show against someone very highly ranked before he fights for the WBO title.
His lack of stamina and power are going to be what hold him back from ever becoming a top tier Middleweight. I think he also has issues with his hands. On the other hand it's great he's fighting the top domestic rivals and not avoiding those fights like some recent British Middleweights have done.
We won't know until he fights for the title but i think his record is spot on for an assault on the world scene. He been brought through well. Like I said it'll bd nice if he can secure one big tough fight first. I think he's back in February so hopefull he'll have s good opponent before he faces the em winner of korobov and lee
He will most likely face Korobov next making in 5 consecutive undefeated opponents. Undefeated doesnt say much but in Saunders case it proves that he is not afraid of a challange. Somewhat of a fan but het needs tp up his game.
I like Billy Joe Saunders, a Korobov fight would be a very interesting match up. I'd like to see where both these guys are at. I'd take Saunders over Korobov atm, I just don't think Korobov has progressed through the pros aswell as expected.
Needs to prepare for every single fight from now onwards like he did with the Eubank fight. None of this blowing up in weight between fights either.
Yeah what i mean about the undefeated opponents is that hes been in a position when all was on the line in a 50/50 match up. If you look at Eubank from the other day he hadnt had that and i think that was a big part of why he lost. He had always had it his own way, never had to dig deep, never had that fear of the unknown like you get from an unbeaten foe.
he is a very good boxer make no mistake about it !! but as MCFC mentioned i am a little concerned with his lifestyle in between fights and the blowing up and down in weight , we have seen this with ricky hatton and it caught up with him towards the end of his career . i think he will become a world champion , he is very skilled in a lot of departments and has a good chin , he is certainly not afraid of anyone thats for sure , i like him !!
Yes, he is coming along nicely. His handlers have not rushed him into big fights as Eubank jr has been, which is good to see. Also, he is not afraid to put it on the line either against tough, undefeated fighters. Again, in an age of overly managed fighters, this is a refreshing change. As others have said, lack of 'between fight' discipline and punch power may set the limitations on his career. He is a gob****e though
With all due respect to Billy Joe,struggling against a domestic fighter like Eubank and narrowly winning his recent fights do not bode well for him on the world stage. He is Euro level and even with the many title belts available these days he will be hard pressed to capture any of them. I thought it was shocking that he was beaten in the championship rounds by Eubank who was clearly exhausted but Billy Joe was even more so.So much for his stamina and training.
