Listening to Eddie Hearn speak about Saunders. He said Billy only flew to America on Sunday due to visa issues and arrived with a cold. Mentioned that he barely slept all week. I know we can all make excuses but the visa stuff is obviously legit. The cold and lack of sleep would explain a lot though. Say what you like about Billy, he always has several really good rounds in a fight before making hard work of it but he didn't even have that last night. He certainly looked off from round 2 onwards.
Good post, very honest as I know you’re a big BJS fan. BJS usually raises his game for the opponent, several fighters do it. I just don’t think 168 is good for Saunders, if he had any chance of beating Canelo it would be at middleweight.
Totally agree on the Lemieux win. Although BJS boxed out of his skin, it is spoken about like a performance of the ages. Lemieux was past it, on the decline and like you say what GGG done a couple years prior was far more impressive and effective.
I wouldn't mind this theory of him supposedly "raising his game" for good opponents, if, you know, he ever fought any.
Precisely. His opponents at super middle aren’t worth mentioning. At 160 he’s in an unfortunate position of having been in a division with Golovkin, Canelo and Jacobs all proving themselves of a very high standard for several years, and he’s fought none of them. He’s had far more average performances in very close fights than he’s had dominant ones, and it’s debatable if he’s ever fought anyone that good at all.
How many excuses do we now have with Saunders? Ryder: too young and inexperienced. Not the real Saunders. Eubank: wasn’t sufficiently motivated and didn’t take his conditioning seriously hence gassing and allowing a seemingly miles behind Eubank right back into the fight. Not the real Saunders. Lee: see Eubank. Akavov: problems with Tibbs and embarrassing venue meant Saunders wasn’t motivated yet again. Not the real Saunders. Monroe: another average opponent and therefore another average performance. Trainer issues still having an effect. Not the real Saunders. Lemieux: the real Saunders. Isufi: more trainer issues and another pathetic opponent. Once again demotivated. Not the real Saunders. Coceres: jetlag. Has the sniffles. Another recent change of trainer. Arrived late. And yet another rubbish opponent. Once again not the real Saunders.
OP touches on an interesting point RE the drugs. That Saunders 2.0 we saw post test fail has certainly gone missing again. He's been poor at 168, no getting around it. Agree that 168 allows a level of laziness too. This weekend's Saunders is food for Canelo, frankly.
The real Saunders is the one that continuously acts like a t**t outside of the ring. He's done, he had potential but dancing around a fading former World Champion appears to be the pinnacle of his career. At 168 Callum Smith would eventually wear him down, the bloke can't dodge and outbox for 12 rounds at that weight against someone fitter than Lemmy.
Lol I remember everyone laughing about a certain ash cloud Now where meant to be sympathetic to leaving a visa to late And not being able to sleep As and when it fits This place
The problem with you Hayers is that you go over the top and see things that aren't there because you're so full of hatred. The Lee win is a quality win against a quality opponent with a good performance and a stoppage. What's the problem here? Monroe wasn't an exciting fight by any stretch but it was a decent win and a decent performance in a tricky fight. What's the problem here? He took one heavy shot against Isufi behind the ear but the rest of that performance was convincing and quality at times. Poor opponent yes but not a performance you'd chalk off as poor. At least try and be fair in your criticisms. You go way over the top every time. You only ever post on here to criticise a couple of fighters you hate.
I have to concede I thought BJS would beat GGG/Canelo but watching his last two fights he has been very moderate. Do buy the Super Middle move just allowing him to be lazy.
