Mitchell Smith vs. James Ancliff, 4 rounds @ super featherweight

 

Smith is debuting.

Ancliff is 11-21-2 with two knockouts.

 

Smith is no relation to "The" Smith family of British boxing, being represented later on the card by Stephen "Swifty" Smith.

 

Round 1

Smith comes at Ancliff with big left hooks, bouncing inside and ducking under the straight-ahead jabs and rights of Ancliff. BIG left hooks to the jaw rock Ancliff back. Smith uses some slick quick leans over below the waist coming forward, then straightens out and blasts Ancliff with more big soaring left hooks. Ancliff ties up. Ancliff backs out, draws the bowstring and throws a 1-2 lurching forward. Smith rocks back and then circles to the left, popping quick flash jabs. Lead right through the gloves by Smith, followed by a big sweeping left hook. Smith hops up and down, reaching out and jabbing the body.

Round 2

Smith circles in and hooks away at Ancliff, who ties him up. Smith half-flurries and half-wrestles Ancliff down to the canvas, and it's ruled a KD. Ancliff circles left and plunges a jab into Smith's stomach. BIG RIGHT CROSS COUNTER by Smith, jolts Ancliff. Overhand right diving in by Smith, followed by a left hook to the body. Getting a bit sloppy. Like his fellow journeyman in the opener, Ancliff raises his arms out to either side and showboats for the crowd. Problem is that he isn't doing nearly as well in there as Noble was at the time. Smith is still catching him even with wild shots falling in. Jabs to the forehead and rights to the body by Smith. Ancliff is mostly just covering up and scooting back.

Round 3

Smith is working that left hand in overdrive, jabbing on the front foot and then hooking once in the pocket or with Ancliff nearly trapped on the ropes. Ancliff is springing up and flicking snake-tongue jabs at him and then sitting back on his heels. BIG SHOTS BY SMITH in an exchange, pounding Ancliff's face.

STOPPED!

 

Quasi-"British stoppage".

The ref didn't waste any time hopping in, but in truth Ancliff's eyes were closed shut and his head tilted back from the force of a couple of Smith's shots. :conf
