Tommy Baker vs. Danny Brown, 4 rounds @ middleweight

 

Again it's a novice vs. a guy with a losing record.

So far Team Losing Record has held Team Novice to a 1-1 split. :think

 

Round 1

Baker is stepping out to the side, swaying back, and launching jabs and crosses out at Brown. Every time Brown looks about ready to dive in and try his own offense Baker smacks him back with a slingshot 1-2. Good movement by Baker. Brown is approaching cautiously, and seems to have poor balance even when moving slowly as Baker is able to slap him out of alignment with his straight shots thrown without much conviction. Long jabs from outside by Baker.

10-9 Baker

 

Round 2

Baker circles out to the left and pokes out his jab, not letting Brown get close. A few right hooks by Brown, who's assembled so little offense I barely noticed is a southpaw until just now. He spends most of his time squared up and blocking with his feet close together. Baker is really opening up now, zipping jabs and crosses over the gap and keeping Brown well outside and drifting toward the ropes for sanctuary. Brown tries rocking from side to side on the way in but isn't fooling Baker, who finds him with the jab with as much ease as ever. Jabs to the bridge of the nose by Baker, missing as he gets greedy and dives in with rights to the body while Brown is jumping away.

20-18 Baker

 

Round 3

Baker is knocking jabs across Brown's face while backing up. Brown is growing more confident throwing shots coming forward, but missing. Baker is taking quick steps back, lining up his shots, popping double jabs and rights and then moving back outside at an angle. Brown is knocked back by a lead right, but keeps coming. Baker dribbles a jab off his temple. Clinch. Brown keeps coming forward, waving his right jab, and then misses an entire four punch combo as Baker slides back.

30-27 Baker

 

Round 4

Baker is moving in and out, slapping Brown about the face and circling left. Brown keeps moving forward, missing, and tying up. Baker is conserving energy, not trying to work on the inside. During the separations Baker is jabbing and hooking up top, aiming for the face, not struggling as Brown grabs him.

40-36 Baker

Anyway, glad he was successful in his pro boxing debut. Let's see how he fares once he steps up in class, against the likes of Daleks.
