Billy Joe Saunders

He looks very capable but unfortunately his opposition have been of the punching bag variety so its hard to get a clear picture. He looks talented, my main problem with him is he should be closer to the 154lb limit rather than any weaknesses he's showing in the ring. He's got nice variety, good technique, a little bit of X factor about him as a southpaw with speed and the angles he finds. But he really does need to fight a Martin Concepcion or something.

 

BJS is a very exciting prospect indeed who will need to be brought on far differently than some of the other fighters...:yep

There is no point in fighting tomato cans. BJS is going to overwhelm them every time for the simple reason he throws a ton of punches. Whether he'll do that over 10 or 12 remains to be seen but over the short distance he throws a bunch.

They need to put him in with a Kevin Hammond or Martin Concepcion. That's not too ambitious really. These guys are very VERY beatable.

 

Hammond would be more of a test. He's very strong and has a good chin. Pretty likely Concepcion would get knocked out quick.

 

By the odd point yeah. But its more of a toughness/styles thing. Hammond has never been knocked out, has that tight guard, puts on pressure. That's what you want to see BJS prove something against. If he sparks Concepcion in a few rounds (and this has happened a lot to Concepcion) it doesn't really help us gauge him.

 

Very talented and very young, going a long way

 

It really should be 1-1 between them (I, and many others, thought Hammond did enough in the first). And you have to check him out, was in two domestic classics just last year (one of them being the second fight with Concepcion - the first wasn't too bad either!).

 

Very talented kid is billy joe..hopefully in the next year he can shed the puppy fat and get down to light-middleweight.
