As a Scot I've always got behind Billy Nelson but that was embarrassing last night. It was nothing but a cash grab. For the last couple of years Billy Nelson has told us that Bakole has knocked everybody bar Tyson Fury out in sparring and that bar Tyson Fury he's the best in the world. Maybe Billy has connections with the former MTK crowd or Fury himself, or keeping the door open for a Fury job - I don't know. A few of the trainers seem to do the same thing. Ingle, Gallagher, Barry, off top of my head. Nelson has said for ages that they are going for IBF belt because it's Martin's dream to be a world champion. He's said once he's got the belt all the boxers who have avided him will come running after him and subseuently the money will naturally follow suit. Well, what the feck was that all about the last few days? Bakole says he has secured a three fight deal with Turkey al al shake/ Riyad Season. I can't figure that out because he would've no doubt secured that anyway after he would probably have beat Ajagba and then won the IBF belt, both on full camps, like they claimed they would. If not even secured it just after beating Ajagba. We know Turkey al al shake loves the heavies. Can't wait for the interviews from Billy Nelson. I hope he was paid well for that farce because in my opinion Billy and Martin have made themselves look stupid. It was meant to be the best card ever. It was far from it in reality.
Seems Martins dream to win a world title could be bought. No doubt they've had a promise that they'll keep their shot but no self respecting fighter would of put such a dent in their dream.
That was very damaging for his career and reputation with hindsight he never should of done it horribly out of shape and unfit he's just jumped at the money. Parker isn't a big puncher either let's not forget.
Billy Nelson is forever telling sparring stories about how good Bakole is. Last night was a shambles and not the first time Billy has put his own personal greed over the well being of a fighter.
I don’t think it should come as a shock that Bakole jeopardised his world title chances for money. He hardly exudes the character of a professional who will stop at nothing to win a world title. People forget that he wanted to quit against Hunter and Nelson had to plead with him in the corner to show some heart. Then take into account that he allows himself to get into a state of obesity. For me it looks clear that he is money-motivated and fair play to him. If you check his IG it seems he is involved in commercial development investments in his homeland and is constructing some sort of mall. Don’t think it would have been a tough decision for him to fly out for an unexpected payday.
Never did get all the hype. I'm sure he does have knockout power, but he needs a few more attributes than that to make it to the top.
Apparently Martin said “coach is like your dad, can’t say no.” That doesn’t exactly paint Billy Nelson in a favourable light.
Pretty sure we,d all have done the same in billy and bakole,s position. Hes been working with bakole for years without seeing a big pay day. Hes billys only real money maker who,s never really had his big opportunity. Year after year their staying in the game....waiting for that big opportunity trying to fund it all etc. Theres no guarantees in boxing. Boxers pull out of fights. At heavyweight you can get knocked out anytime. Hes also getting older. In bakole,s position you,ve pretty much got to take the money when its there. Its pretty much a problem with boxing as opposed to the boxer. It was a free hit last night that gives him the oppertunity to prove himself with a 3 fight deal off the back of it. Eventually we get to find out if hes good enough. The juries out more after last night imo...but the definate answer comes now. The fella should have had better opportunities by now.
It’s not the taking the fight that’s the issue, it’s the fact he’s allowed himself to get in that shape when he’s on the verge of fighting for a world title eliminator.
He got paid an obscene amount of money with further fights guaranteed, for more silly money. It’s a short career so why not. It is frustrating that a professional athlete is in such poor shape though. No excuses for that imo
Bakole,s been getting sucess around the 280 lb mark. His biggest win came at 285 lbs. Battered anderson into submission in 5 rounds at 285 lbs. They,ve went heavier after the kuzmin fight. Think he was sitting at 310 on the scales for parker without a camp. The camp would have got him down to 285 or whatever. Could well be hes just lazy etc. But bearing in mind hes winning well at 285. It could well be tactical just without having a camp this time. How many times do we need to see ripped guys getting beat up at heavy before we realise its might not be the optimum weight at heavy. Otherwise why did parker come in at 267.
Some say Bakole was getting 500k. Others say 3m. Neither worth that given he would soon be IBF mandatory.
Apparently he hadn't sparred since August. Horrible decision. He would have made more money by beating Ajagba and then fighting for a title/a big fight in Africa against AJ (which Turki wanted to make).
