I read in the newspaper about Calazaghe, or Hatton winning the award. But it also said that due to the new block voting system there is a big possibility that Michael Bisping is going to sneak it. Epecialy if they both loose. The awrd is the day after the Hatton fight, and a win for him might be too late for votes to affect outcome. It also mentioned Hamilton...who may have won previously. Is this possible?? And who out there amongst you would vote for him. Cagewarriors started the campaign i believe
Lol he has no chance and neither does calzaghe, hamilton is a big favourite and ricky only has a chance if he bets floyd.
Bisping on the basis of what? The average man on the street has never heard of him and he has ZERO class. Anyway them awards are BS. I really dont think people give them the time of day anymore.Theres always some random winning.
This is ridiculous. Last year was a mess. I don't see how they beat Calzaghe to it. Oh well. Calzaghes a 25-1 to win it this year. If he unifies the division and becomes the BEST EVER at 168 then he probably still won't get it. Anyone who knows boxing knows that pipping guys like Benn, Eubank, Collins, Toney and Jones to such an accolade is impressive!
No no no, as much as I like MMA, Bisping does not deserve to be nominated let alone win it. He has done **** all! And those BBC votes are such BS, made up by a bunch of PC scardy leftist twats who would rather vote in Zara ****ing Philips who gallops around on a horse instead of a boxer like Hatton. The horse does all the work! They just want to vote in some boring **** that won't offend anyone, we could have the greatest PFP boxer on the planet who has reigned for 10 years and considered an ATG and the BBC would still find a way to get some bowler or water polo'ist to win. But anyway, Bisping doesn't deserve any accolades like that and he's going to get beat by that equally annoying fool Evans,
1999: Lennox Lewis (boxer) 1985: Barry McGuigan (boxer) 1967: Henry Cooper (boxer) 1970: Henry Cooper (boxer) Boxing has one of the largest amounts of winners from any sport.
Dont agree really. Hamilton launched him self from obscurity to spotlight in 1 year and has been throughly consistent. Hatton and JC although consistent have hardly had standout years to be awarded BBC sports personalitys of the year on the basis of 1 possible victory. More people know who Lewis Hamilton is than Hatton and JC combined.
Was it obscurity? He was groomed from the start. I'm sure anyone who is hardcore F1 fan knew of him. He did really well but he didn't win and it's ONE good year. The historical stand Calzaghe is currently making speaks for itself. Hamilton is still a flash in the pan until proven otherwise. He is an amazing prospect but lacks Joes longevity. Joe has been a champ for ten years, undefeated and is on his way to not only unifying the super middleweight division but is also looking to set himself in stone as the best super middleweight to ever do it. Hamilton did amazing but Khan came from obscurity and went all the way to the Olympic final, just losing while being very young. Sounds similar to Hamilton. Based on your record he should have won the award.
hamilton hasnt proved himself at all yet. joe has had to battle for years and years just to get a little recognition. bisping is a good fighter, but mma in the uk is not big enough to influence an institution like bbc sports personality. based on last year ... the most obscure athlete will win! go JOE! rise sir Calzaghe
The only person who deserves it outside of Joe is Hatton if he beats Floyd. Anyone who knows anything about boxing knows what Joe has achieved at 168 is unbelievable. Joe always says Britain likes losers - maybe he is right.
