Romero is... He flat out admits it on of the UFC documentaries. It's weird wacked out messianic Judaism. I don't mind the usual lame brained muscular Christianity that most fighters spout, but this guys beliefs are just plain wacky.
Give me example about his "wacky" beliefs. Also I'm not sure I understand the word deadbeat correctly. Do you mean like he doesn't have money for his family? Well it's not his fault the UFC pays him ****, he's working as much as he can to get to the belt and the money and he didn't earn **** during his wrestling career either. It's not like he spent the money on whores and booze.
Yeah abandon your original family and start anew, that's how you do it! What a classy guy. http://www.foxsports.com/ufc/story/...ly-behind-in-cuba-to-pursue-mma-dreams-101014 Romero is a piece of ****... Plain and simple.
Rigondeaux left his family in Cuba as well. Sometimes people are faced with difficult choices. A middle class guy from the West can't understand this.
He life his family because he hooked up with a woman and then decided to pursue MMA... He's a piece of ****. Textbook definition of a deadbeat.
Your second reply to me wasn't worth a reply. You mentioned Romero, they're fighting next. So if he beats Romero (which is what the whole discussion is centered around) then he clearly proves he's on the level of Romero who you just mentioned alongside ATG calibre fighters. In terms of his losses, let's look at those. A split loss to Evans, could have gone either way. Up at LHW. A loss to ATG Hendo (later avenged). A loss to ATG Wanderlei. At this point he has a close loss and a loss to two men better than he, no shame there. Sonnen, that's a bad loss, shouldn't lose to guys like that as clear as that. Then he loses to Belfort who's better than he is, no shame in that. Kennedy, that's his second bad loss. He loses to Rockhold but avenged it later. So all in all, at MW we have two bad losses (Sonnen and Kennedy) plus a small handful of good losses to men who are greater than he is. That's far from embarrassing. To counter that we have wins over Rockhold, Hendo, Silva, Let, Leben, Sinosic, Hamill and Miller. plus we'd have the victory over Romero (again the whole discussion centres on that). The reality is hardly anyone has a better resume at MW than the above. As for his prime, that would have to be 2011 to now. He's very dislikeable, most of is root against him every fight, he is on the wrong end of the most brutal KO in UFC history. He is also only one or two wins away from cementing his place as an ATG MW.
You can't just say "a loss to Hendo" and "a loss to Vitor" as if we're talking a Klitschko vs Joshua type of loss. He got completely and utterly destroyed and we saw that he simply doesn't belong on that level. He was also humiliated by Rockhold who choked him out with one arm, a fluke punch in the second fight doesn't somehow correct that. Add to that losses against low level guys like Chael and Kennedy and this just puts him out of ATG discussion permanently. He didn't win against Hendo and Silva, it was homecooking and they were way past their prime and weren't considered elite of the division. Wins against Le, Leben, Sinosic, Hamill and Miller? Are you serious? Those are complete bums. Might as well list every single fighter he ever beat. Since when do victories against those guys make you an ATG? Like I said, he doesn't have a memorable prime, he doesn't have a win in which he would dominate a decent opponent and there's nothing that could make us believe that he could hang with any ATG in his prime. There is not a single ATG who would routinely get destroyed by other ATGs without a single decent victory on his own. He was always a gatekeeper and his title shot was undeserved and on short notice. He's a paper champ and it doesn't change the fact that his skills are gatekeeper level. There are like 40 people in the UFC RIGHT NOW who have better resume than Bisping, so how many ATGs does the sport of MMA have? In 50 years time it will have 1000 ATGs by your logic. This is the equivalent of calling someone like Steve Cunningham an ATG in boxing.
People lose to guys who are better than them, it happens. Wanderlei got destroyed by Belfort and Tito, does that mean he can't be great? Liddell got destroyed by Rampage and Couture so is he not great? Why was his punch against Rockhold a fluke but none of his losses were flukes? That isn't very consistent is it not? You might call them bums, that's your choice. I respect every fighter who competes. He only has two bad losses, Kennedy and Sonnen. The other guys are ATG fighters so should beat him. As well as the two bad losses he has victories over the fringe type guys I mentioned, Anderson, Hendo, Rockhold and Romero (for the benefit of this discussion). Tell me which MW fighters possess 4 wins better than those.
Wanderlei and Liddell at least got some decent wins of their own and had a good run in their prime. I consider Wanderlei borderline ATG (more a legend than an ATG) because of his run in Pride but Liddell wasn't an ATG IMO. Bisping is a win 2 lose 1 gatekeeper. It's pointless to consider that he would win against Romero because this is extremely unlikely but even if he would you can't just become ATG with one good win in your career. Or two, if you count Rockhold. It also depends on the nature of the win, if it's another homecooking decision win then hell no. Silva and Hendo were old, past their prime and BEAT Bisping who got homecooking decisions. Silva even knocked him out. Those aren't the kind of wins that make you an ATG. Romero, Weidman, Rockhold, Anderson Silva, Vitor, Mousasi, Jacare and Whittaker all have better resumes than Bisping so are they ATGs too? Or on the brink of being ATG? ATG is a term reserved for exceptional fighters, this is why boxing fans laugh at you MMA fans, you name anyone with 3 wins in a row an "ATG". In entire boxing there are perhaps 2 or 3 active fighters right now who people would consider ATGs, yet in MMA a single division has 8 active ATGs fighting in it at the moment. LMAO
In entire boxing among active fighters only Wlad and Pacquiao (both on the brink of retiring) are consensus ATGs. Yet MMA somehow has 100 active ATGs still fighting if we count the likes of Bisping as ATG. LMAO. Any club fighter can become an ATG in MMA. I think in the entire history of MMA only Fedor is a real ATG by boxing standards, with Anderson Silva, GSP and maybe Jon Jones being close.
The whole discussion is centered around him beating Romero, I can't make that any clearer. If you don't consider Wandy or Chuck ATG then you shouldn't consider most men ATG. Boxing has a much richer history than MMA. But let's look at boxing, although I'll probably mention some names now you won't know. Sullivan was the first HW champ, he was considered an ATG with zero great wins. Corbett has only one ATG win against Sullivan who has none. So two ATG boxers with no depth to their resume. Nonpareil was the MW champion and also considered an ATG for many many years. MAMA has only been going in the mainstream since 1993. That's only 34 years. Archie Moore had a career almost as long as that. So just like the early days of boxing it is a quicker route to greatness right now. Especially in the MW division, I mean how many great MW fighters have even existed? Out of those how many can top 4 victories over Silva, Hendo, Rockhold and Romero? Yes MMA could have 8 active ATG fighters right now, the history is shallow. You could argue every single ranked FLW fighter today belongs in the top 5 ATG FLW rankings. Same with BW.
Your logic is once again completely ******ed and you obviously don't know what an ATG is. ATG isn't some sort of title that you get at some point and it gets taken away from you when the new guys come. It's supposed to be reserved for the guys who will be remembered as such as long as the sport exists, hence the name all-time great. No one will remember Bisping as an ATG in 100 years time and hundreds of other guys from his era that you think would be ATGs. From the history of MMA so far only Fedor has really secured that status, he's basically like Sullivan. Real ATGs are guys like Floyd, Pacquiao, Wladimir Klitschko, Hopkins etc. Guys who have made sure that their legacy will be discussed by generations to come.
