Fury and Usyk can walk in the streets in NYC and maybe 1 in a 1,000 will notice that they look familiar. There is no active boxer that is a household name in the USA right now, not even Ryan Garcia or Canelo.
If Canelo walked around southern cali or Texas, I'm sure he'd get noticed there. Being a ginger makes anybody look distinctive too.
Awesome fight for fans but the big money comes from the casuals and few of them would even know who these guys are.
agreed. Fury will be noticed just for being freakishly tall but most people wouldn't know he is a boxer.
If one of these fighters were from the UK or somewhere, the hype would be unreal. Also goes to show how important those prefight bust ups and exchanges are to generate the hype and excitement. They get people talking.
Top Rank has that ESPN contract and they stay fat off of that and ESPN just checks the box that they having boxing on their network with little thought on the competitiveness of their cards. It's basically the Top Rank showcase instead of highly competitive fights generally. I'm in agreement with you.
Tyson Fury would definitely get noticed. He's a louder personality and the fights with Wilder got him known to the American audience.
