Let’s move away from the Canelo hate and show respect and applause for a brilliant boxer in Dmitry Bivol. He fought the perfect fight tonight and put in a flawless performance to beat the biggest superstar in boxing. Outboxed and outfought one of the strongest fighters in the world today. Massive amounts of respect should be given to him. Canelo deserves respect for challenging himself and handling the loss respectfully too.
The fight went exactly as expected only Bivol stayed disciplined and Canelo did not find enough openings with his power shots. He scored two clean uppercuts and that's it. Great defense and discipline by Bivol.
He surprised the hell out of me. He's got a granite chin, 12 round tank, smart IQ, moves well for a light heavyweight and was very disciplined, didn't fall for any of Canelo's planned traps. Boxed Canelo's ears off.
Bivol was more impressive. Canelo looked lost tonight in some of the later rounds, he never looked like that against Golovkin. Bivol has faster hands than Golovkin, and better footwork.
'The thing about choosing Bivol, however, is that he's incredibly difficult to look good against given his defense and fundamentals. He has also had a string of somewhat boring title defenses against opponents either unwilling or unskilled enough to press him beyond his comfort zone, which have conveniently hidden just how good he is. From a statistic standpoint, Bivol trails only Golovkin (10.1) in the category of jabs landed per round with 9.7, according to CompuBox. In his most recent title defense against Umar Salamov in December, 76% of Bivol's attempted punches were jabs. In fact, Bivol landed more punches in Round 7 of that fight alone than Salamov did for the entire 12 rounds. Bivol is also an exemplary combination puncher who is very good at beginning his offensive bursts to the body in order to bring down the higher guard of his opponents The thing that ultimately separates Bivol, however, is his defense. Opponents land just 5.8 total punches per round against him, which is second to Demetrius Andrade's 5.1 and well below the CompuBox average for all fighters of 16.4. Bivol also leads all other boxers, including the likes of Vasiliy Lomachenko, Shakur Stevenson and Alvarez, with a plus/minus rating of +20.3, which subtracts a fighter's opponents connect percentage from their own Bivol is also ranked first in fewest punches landed per round by his opponents at 5.4, edging out Andrade and Tyson Fury for the top spot' Why was no one ever mentioning Bivol's name in discussions about the best defensive fighters in the game?
Too many haters here Bivol won but looked like Clottey for most of the fight. Was a close fight despite what the scum on here would have you believe
Impressed how well he hid behind that high guard Late fight he could have sat behind it all night and cnaelo couldn't do anything about it Bivol can do better than that also Canelo should not invoke a rematch
Aight, I'm going to ask a similar question like earlier cuz im curious. Who was more impressive against Canelo: Bivol or Mayweather (im actually stuck here folks)?
Bivol kept a very tight defence and opened up with rapid flurries that Canelo didn't have an answer to, the last four rounds especially were him just gaining in more and more confidence when he realised this and dominating Canelo. Was wholly one sided in the last third of the fight.
