Bivol is a very classy boxer and current world champion (WBA) but just doesn't get any big recognition like other boxers. Is it because of his nationality or they don't know how to promote? He is very skilful, relentless and almost like a computer game character. I can only imagine if it was another boxer with his skill and record of title defences, he would have had a very different presence in the media.
What are you talking about, bud? Bivol is recognised as one of the best boxers in the world right now and this forum in particular rates him very highly(deservedly)
Bivol is one of my favourite active fighters , I enjoy watching him box although a lot of people find him boring, i think given his level of opposition not always being the strongest, and the dominance he's shown over some opponents that he should have more stoppages to his name but he just doesn't go for it when he could. I don't think it's his nationality, the fans that genuinely don't like a fighter because of where they're from are pretty few and far between, I think it's more the matchmaking and promotion, and the fact he doesn't have those highlight reel moments to his name Still one of my favourites though and I gave him much better odds against beterbiev than most
Addition: I think among boxing fans he's very well respected, the poor promotion for most of his career is why he isn't really known with the broader sports fanbase
Bivol has looked good and is a smart clever boxer, however he has not fought a LHW Champion yet in his career, once he has done then I will know a bit more .
He will if he beats Beterbiev. We are seeing most of the big rivalry matches happening, and now it is time for his.
Great fighter, one of my favourites. We were so close to getting the Beterbiev fight . I hope Beterbiev recovers well and we get that fight in October.
He is an excellent boxer and us die hard fans like him a lot. His style is not going to be appealing to the casual fan though. Unless you have the combination punching ability of a Canelo or the fearsome power of a prime GGG or unless you can do something extraordinary like becoming undisputed champ like Usyk in 2 weight classes, casuals aren't going to care.
I think he is getting far more credit for beating just Canelo, than he should. He had a strange fight with Richards. his next fight against Salamov was not too better Canelo fight make him a star. Zurdo fight cemented that status. I think it's his style, that is not casual fan friendly. For me he is most skilled boxer from Bud to Usyk.
Well for one he hasn't beaten a single elite Light Heavyweight the Canelo win was a good one but again Canelo is not an elite Light Heavyweight. Bivol's fights mostly go the distance and aren't the most exciting, hes a very good fighter with sound fundamentals but his style is hardly one that gets the public excited. But saying that it's not his fault that Beterbiev pulled out and that fight would've told us alot about Bivol, and had he won he would've been considered a great IMO. But right now theres not many big fights for him to enhance his legacy, so hes going to have to play the waiting game and hope Beterbiev can recover from his injury ASAP. You also say if another boxer had his skills and title defences well actually there is a comparison to Winky Wright, both Wright and Bivol had high guard defence with very sound fundamentals. Both fighters best win is schooling Canelo, Trinidad, two fighters who moved up a weightclass. Both Bivol, Wright, have alot of title defences at their respected weightclasses, but neither Bivol or Wright are considered big fan favourites despite both fighters being ranked in the top 10 P4P at one time.
Bivol is appreciated by people who know and follow boxing. Casuals are not going to care if he beats 10 Beterbievs unless he misses weight and fails the drug test and acts mental on social media.
