Bivol said tying Beterbiev up would be unmanly?

They mentioned on the broadcast that Bivol had apparently said this. Anyone know where he said it?

didn't need to tie him up

Berb was pretty poor in the mid fight. Really Bivol should have done better. He didn't box THAT well.

He did need to tie him up.

Doesnt matter what your card was, he lost the fight because he let Biev unload on him as hes backpeddling for chunks of a round.

Could have likely halted a ton of that by mixing in some tie ups.

Tying up your opponent is a skill that fighters have to work on. If that's not part of Bivols skillset, I can't recall him doing much tying up in the past, he's not going to do that effectively. It's not part of Bivols game.

I've spoken to a few boxers and coaches and most had Bivol up by 1 round at the final bell. They all conceded that it's hard to win fights when your on the back foot and being stalked around the ring, especially in the last few rounds, even if he's landing the better shots. It just looks bad and Beterbiev was still landing we have to acknowledge that.

There's nothing unmanly about tying up your opponent if it means disrupting your opponent's offense in order to win and using it when badly hurt. It's when fighters excessively grab/hold and spoiling a fight with no other means of winning that makes it less manly.

Exactly, clinch fighting or fighting out of the clinch is a legit skill that used to be lauded in boxing.

However, most guys just hug and wait for the ref to seperate them now if they do attempt to clinch.

I don't think that Beterbiev is an easy guy to clinch with he is strong as a bull.

He let him, because he couldn't endure his power. I watched the fight very carefully again yesterday. Whenever Beterbiev hit him hard, he backed off and stayed in defense in the rest of the round.

Don't believe that at all

The reason he didn't clinch a lot was because Beterbiev is very good at negating the clinch and is physically stronger. Bivol's best work was also done in center ring where he wouldn't need to clinch anyway.
