Iirc Bradley stressed too but Beter seem to be very strong and actin' as a punisher in the clinch so this could have been the main reason.

 

According the rules of boxing clinching is illegal. A referee can take points away for clinching because it is a violation of the rules of boxing.

 

Because he doesn’t want to “fight” like a spoiling *****. “Clinching”, especially its overuse is dirty boxing and is a spoiling tactic..

Somethings happened over the last several years where this is looked at as “high level” boxing by fans… I was okay with Hopkins doing it a lot when he was an old man in boxing…. but then Andre Ward and fighters who rely on it more and more when they’re younger is shameful and I’m sure doesn’t do the sports dying image in the US any favors, most these spoiling fighters who praise clinching are American).. is anyone REALLY surprised that people like Haney and Stevenson are unknown to the public? Their whole styles are built around being negative and preventing a fight from happening.

How many clinches you seeing from Usyk, Loma, GGG, Inoue? Or even the true top level American fighters like Crawford or Tank?

Ironically, Wladimir was horrible about this… of course in that era, not long ago, fans still looked down on clinching…..

 

Was just thinking that clinching a little more would make things a lot easier for Bivol in the rematch.
