Uhm…he’s a champion himself? So he must have had to either beat another champion or position himself to fight for a vacant title. He beat Canelo with ease who also win a world title at LHW a few years before. He’s amongst the elite of this generation.
I don't understand that rationale, surely you want your favourite fighter to become undisputed, and beat the bogeyman of the division? There is no shame in losing to a beast like Beterbiev, and IMO there will be more questions about Bivols resume if he doesn't fight than if he does and loses.
Well if you believe there's more than one champion in a division then sure. However he's never once faced the best fighter in his own division. Beating Canelo was quality, but none of us know how good Bivol really is because he's still faced the LHW champion despite holding a title for 7 years. If it weren't for boxing politics Bivol would just be a highly ranked contender.
The fight must and will happen. The only thing that has slowed things to-date is $$$ and the Saudis will now come thru with that; the only caveat is that it can happen no sooner than 3 months after Ramadan. So (barring injuries or some other BS excuse), look for updates on a fight being scheduled for Riyadh for presumably somewhere between July-Sept. But both fighters are on the hook now to do this.
That's the wrong attitude to have you should want your favourite fighter to dare to be great, because the reward Bivol will get if he can overcome his biggest challenge will be greatness.
Well said man.... I might be so concerned with Bivol. After all, nothing can stop Bivol vs Beterbiev from happening. May the best man win.
In this post-fight interview Eddie Hearn says for Bivol it's signed and a done deal (even if the interviewer somewhat distorts Arum's previous cautious statements regarding scheduling Beterbiev to accommodate Ramadan). (Also Hearn throws cold water on Mbilli getting a shot anytime soon vs. Canelo but that he'd love to see him against Berlanga.) Go to 5:30 mark: This content is protected
