The reason Canelo could fight that way against Golovkin is because Canelo has a granite chin and is a big puncher though (on top of the fact Abel Sanchez gave awful corner advice in trying to get Golovkin to walk down Canelo instead of outboxing him). Bivol doesn't have the chin of Canelo nor the same kind of punching power Canelo had at 160. Additionally, Beterbiev is very good at walking aggressive opponents into counters while fighting off the back-foot. If Bivol gets countered on the front-foot then the weight of Beterbiev's already hellacious power is amplified by Bivol forward momentum. I just don't see how Bivol is durable enough or offensively varied enough for a pressure-based game-plan to work against Beterbiev quite honestly.
Difficult to say really. Bivol put up a very good effort in the first fight IMO but it wasn't enough even if some thought Bivol won the fight. If Bivol could anticipate Beterbiev's incoming movements better with his footwork - it could make a big difference. Also, Bivol needs to do what Leonard did in preparation in the Duran rematch, practice and practice inside and phone-booth fighting. Just one-twoing with the jab and straight will be difficult to be consistently successful when against such a raging bull in Beterbiev. Also, Beterbiev can be hit, hurt and dropped - and these knockdown rounds will be critical for such a potentially tight fight, so Bivol would need to also commit to his shots more, with more power, and also sneak some serious body shots in that may slow Beterbiev down for the later rounds. Will be a top fight, really looking forward to the whole card.
Bivol can do better if he does these things -dont throw more than 3-4 punches at a time - use more angles and head movement -more body shots -load up on counter shots
Bivol won't be under the same same mental pressure in the next fight, I think that'll make up the shortfall from the first fight.
I think Bivol will try to go back to what he normally does more in the rematch. Bivol isn’t really a lateral movement fighter. He’s more of an in and out fighter. I think part of his success in the first fight was Beterbiev not expecting Bivol to fight that way. Now I do believe he will still use lateral movement just not as much. More situationally. He’s taking a risk if he does go back to his old approach but I wouldn’t be surprised if after facing Beterbiev he feels like he doesn’t need to move as much. He wasn’t dropped. He wasn’t ready to go at any point. Maybe he feels he can stand with Beterbiev more. Not using as much movement will help with him being more active. His lack of activity is what lost him the first fight.
Bivol won the last fight and will win the rematch. Bivol can be better , Arthur can't. You can't get prime back at Arthurs age
Typical garbage post from a garbage poster. If anything, Bivol didn’t fight scared enough and showed too much willingness to exchange at certain points. If he moves more and clinches a little, he wins the rematch outright. And the part about Bivol being scared of a 40 year old man? I mean… There’s no polite way to respond to this, that’s severely moronic. The whole reason George Foreman became the oldest HW champion was because Moorer wasn’t “scared” of a 46 year old man. If he’d been “scared” a little and boxed from the range as he should’ve, he never would’ve lost his title.
I mean, it's a weird thing to call it unmanly to not exchange with someone who has way more power. Being unmanly is what Wlad did against Povetkin, clinching and spoiling a smaller guy with less power. If you don't have the guns to have a shootout with the other guy, it actually takes courage to be in there undergunned, and the smart thing to do is to fight to your strengths, in the case of Bivol to box defensively and win rounds. Not only the smart thing but basically the only way you can win. In this case he's better off doing that and trying to catch Beterbiev with a good shot/counter and only then risking more, but even then it's dangerous. It's actually easier 'courage wise' to be the more powerful fighter, because then you can be the bully. Weight classes were supposed to limit that but sometimes people take testosterone and hgh and end up with remarkable abilities even at 40.
I've only watched the fight once but I had the fight a draw and thought Bivol hurt Beterbiev as much as visa versa.
Bivol was literally fighting one, if not the, hardest punchers in the sport who had knocked out or stopped every man he'd fought, and who if you stand in front of him will bludgeon you into a semi-conscious quivering heap with those anvil fists of his. He didn't run like a cheetah, hold like an octopus, and throw 3-5 punches a round like many of these modern day so called slicksters who employ those tactics even when facing leprechauns on decks stacked in their favour and against average punchers at best And even though I thought a draw was the fairest result albeit I've only watched it once, was rooting for Beterbiev, I honestly felt like if anyone deserved not to come away with an L it was Bivol. And it's also abundantly clear to me that Beterbiev doesn't genuinely believe he won judging from his body language both after the final bell and in subsequent interviews FTR, as brilliant as Bivol undoubtedly is, prime Beterbiev knocks him out and even this 40 y/o version stands a good chance of doing so
Both are so good that it's hard to change anything, especially after getting to know each other's styles in the first fight.
