On the scene. If this comes off, who you got? Hearn: If Canelo Fights Triple-G Next, Would Love To Bring Bivol Against Buatsi To The O2 This content is protected BY KEITH IDEC Published Tue May 24, 2022, 03:03 AM EDT 42 comments Canelo Alvarez could decide whether Joshua Buatsi gets the title shot he wants next. Promoter Eddie Hearn revealed after Buatsi’s win against Craig Richards on Saturday night that he would like to bring a Dmitry Bivol-Buatsi fight to O2 Arena in London later this year. Bivol’s schedule is dependent on Alvarez, however, because the Mexican icon can exercise an immediate rematch clause in his contract that would entitle him to a second shot at Bivol’s WBA light heavyweight title in his next fight. On Monday, during a press conference in Mexico, Alvarez revealed that was going to stick to his original plan – by having a third showdown with rival Gennadiy Golovkin next – and that scenario could allow for a Bivol-Buatsi bout later this year. London’s Buatsi beat Richards by unanimous decision in a 12-round WBA elimination match Saturday night at O2 Arena and is the WBA’s third-ranked contender for Bivol’s title. Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) upset Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) by unanimous decision in their 12-round, 175-pound title fight May 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. “I think, you know, Canelo’s got the option to fight Bivol next or fight Triple-G, then Bivol,” Hearn said.. “If he fights Triple-G, Bivol’s looking for a big fight. I’d love to bring Bivol against Joshua Buatsi to the O2. That’s an incredible fight. “Wherever [Buatsi has] gotta do that, he’s ready to challenge. You know, it’s been six years nearly since Rio, since he turned professional. And, you know, he’s had a great development. That was an incredible fight tonight, but I don’t think there’s any more steps. I think if Dmitry Bivol is available and ready to go towards the end of the year, I think that’s the fight for Joshua Buatsi.” The 29-year-old Buatsi (16-0, 13 KOs), a bronze medalist at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, defeated Richards (17-3-1, 10 KOs) by scores of 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113. Buatsi went 12 rounds for the first time in five years as a pro, but the Ghanian contender is certain he is ready for a fighter of Bivol’s caliber. “We’ve said it, man,” Buatsi said. “We want the world title next. I want to fight here for it. But listen, again, maximum respect to [Richards], man. I can’t give him enough credit. But we’ve made it clear. We’ve made it very clear. You know what it is. Eddie know what it is. Everyone knows what it is, man. My team and I, they’re there. We’re ready, man.”
Buatsi is not ready for Bivol. Callum Smith is more seasoned and a much more suitable opponent. They should look to put Buatsi against someone like Pascal, Browne or the French European champion next.
Bivol should fight the winner of Beterbiev Smith next. Fox E-Hearn and fighting Buatsi over here after the way they almost screwed Bivol against Richards. E-Hearn has his favourites and Bivol is way too nice and trusting and is not one of them. He's been screwed on the scorecards in two of his last three fights against E-Hearn's fighters, fights he dominated and in reality won wide but would have been scored draws had he lost just one more round. Buatsi and Yarde can duke it out with each other in the UK. It's a massive domestic dust up and they'll both earn a king's ransom. Big Frank is trying to bring the winner of Beterbiev vs Smith over here for Yarde. If Yarde wants a crack at the three-belt unified king he should have to go to their backyards, Canada or the US.
Bivol better fights Buatsi like Clenelo or he'll lose on points and the brits rob him blind. They already tried it in the Richards fight. And there is MUCH more money behind Buatsi than it was behind Richards.
What does Ramirez have to do to get Bivol in the ring? Hes the mandatory and should get his chance next. Buatsi can wait.
Ideally Virgil Hunter would like Buatsi to have1 more fight before Bivol but come through the hour cometh the man. The Prince of Ghana Joshua Buatsi from the same boxing line as Azumah Nelson, David “Poison” Kotei, Ike “Bazooka” Quartey et al is my pick to beat the best Light Heavyweight in the world Prince Dimitry Bivol of Russia . Two undefeated warriors for the Light Heavyweight championship of the world. Buatsi dealt very well with the spirited challenge of former world title challenger Craig “Spider” Richards who gave Bivol a good contest.
