pancho villa dies at 23 after he had several teeth extracted because of infection. he was advised to stay at home but he partied instead. the infection spread to his throat and he dies days after having an emergency operation. he fought his last fight basically with one hand because he was protecting his swollen jaw. in an age, where a fighter can call off a fight because of a bum stomach, i can help but admire the old timers for fighting in unbelievable circumstances.
This comes more under the category Bizarre Boxing Burials. John Sholto Douglas (9th Marquess of Queensberry) insisted that he be buried standing upright. Its never been proved, but rumor has it that he was actually buried headfirst. Amazing the stuff you can learn on this website..
As an aside I don't think you could do a cover like Sgt Peppers again because of the copyright laws ypu would pay an absolute fortune to use the images used here and I wonder if at sometime someone has tried to claim off this image anyway. Also when we look at unusual deaths of boxers are they really any different from the general public at large, drugs, alchohol, suicide, depression, voilence, cars etc. there are a lot of ways to lose your life.
I thought Turpin shot his landlady, but thought I was getting his story mixed up with that of music producer Joe Meek of all people,so I didn't mention it. Thanks for pointing that out. Do you know if Turpins daughter survived?
Turpin didn't shoot his daughter. The little girl (Carmen - 2 yrs old) was found by his body covered in blood but unharmed.
Lord of the Rings: Peter Arnold Page 30 "...on May 17th 1966 the man who 15 years earlier had been idolised by the British public wrote suicide notes and went up to his bedroom with a gun. Sadly his youngest daughter followed him. He shot her and himself twice each."
I don't know where Mr. Arnold gets his info from. I grew up in the area, boxed for the local club, played rugby with one of the Turpin brothers, and worked in a factory with an old friend of Turpin's. The story was always that Randolph had shot at his daughter but missed, then turned the gun on himself. I don't know if anyone knows for sure. Carmen (the daughter) posts on various message boards but I doubt if even she knows. I wouldn't want to bring the subject up anyway.
