Yes, we have a fake 10-point must system! The judges are too pre-programmed to really think for themselves. They don't use those other available scores, like 10-4 or 10-3. If someone barely scrapes by and wins a round, it's a 10-9 round. If he blows his opponent away (barring a knockdown) it's still just a 10-9 round. But on the other hand, how low can one go? Meaning, if a judge decided to score a particular round as 10-1, could the lowman ever have a chance of catching back up? Interesting stuff... But anyway, i don't like it when a fight gets stopped for a boxer "taking too many shots". This is boxing, not golf. Let them go! The fighters would agree. i know Jose was connecting at 69% on his power punches, but Austin never really seemed "hurt" and could've continued. (Hey! Did anyone else notice? Austin Dulay was called the hero of 605, but his trunks had 615 on them)
Well the low man could catch up from a 10-1 round by scoring his own 10-1 round. But I don't like the idea of giving judges more "degrees of freedom." Who could ever argue the difference between a 10-4 round and a 10-6 round? Just makes it that much easier to give it to the A-side, not that they have much trouble in the current system. I think I missed the fight that you're talking about but for young/not prominent fighters they need to protect them. If two 30 year old champions making hundred of thousands/millions each want to fight to the death that's OK with me, but if you have a 19 year old idiot making $2k they shouldn't let him take much punishment.

Gettin through the cut will probably give Paul more confidence going ahead...lets hope he boxes an actual boxer soon instead of dudes already retired from their preferred sport. He needs a lesson in humility and these ageing mma guys aren't gonna give it to him. He does have a little bit of heart and decent power...that combined with their lack of striking prowess and pathetic footwork and he's gonna keep winning these type of fights.
Manny Pacquiao registered a 10-6 round on JMM in the first fight (though one judge erroneously called it 10-7). JMM came back from getting bounced off the mat three times and arguably won the fight.
the 10 point must system is one of the least accurate scoring systems in any sport, that's true. But leaving the score to judges' interpretation is even worse, because judges in boxing are often clearly partial. Giving them another degree of freedom would completely throw fair scoring out of the window. The scoring system just needs a massive overhaul, but then it still has to be restricted to what a judge can score within the parameters.
