LAS VEGAS (May 15, 2014)--This past Saturday night at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, Cruiserweight contender BJ Flores scored a spectacular 1st round KO in a bout that was scheduled for six rounds. Collins hit the ground after a picture perfect right hand of Flores connected in the very first round. Flores of Las Vegas upped his record to 29-1-1 with 19 knockouts and looked sharp despite coming off a 17-month layoff. "I have the power, speed and talent and its finally time to put it all together. I have had some business opportunities over the last two years that have kept me away from the ring but now I have the team in place and boxing has my full attention. I am ready to fulfill my potential. I have the perfect team in place to make sure I get those oppurtunities in the immediate future". "I want to thank my team. The next year is the most important of my boxing career. All I want to do is get right back in the gym and prepare for my next fight. I have never had the luxury, since very early in my career of fighting and immediately having another fight scheduled in the upcoming weeks. My new team is taking care of all the outside the ring details and that allows me to focus only on training. I have nothing more to say. I will do all my talking in the ring", said Flores. Flores, who has been drawing rave reviews as a ringside commentator on the NBC Sports Fight Night series, is ready to start making big noise in the Cruiserweight division. Advisor Louie Decubas jr. says "BJ is an explosive fighter and he proved that again on Saturday night. BJ has shown very good power and speed and people are going to be very surprised when he continues to score KO'S as he moves up in opposition. With his amateur background and Great chin we feel he matches up with ANYONE in the division. We have some very big plans for him in the next few months. "
i dont really understand the cruiserweight division. is huck the best? or is it steriod jones. pablo hernandez? didnt he lose to cunnigham? and then you have dennis lebedev good contender. where does bj flores fit into all this. whose the man?
Hernandez has a controvercial TD aginast USS, but beat him convincingly in the rematch (even KD'ing him twice) 1.Hernandez 2. Wlod 3. Lebedev 4. Huck that's the top 4, you also have very talented guys like Drozd, Makabu, Kalenga, Masternak or Mchunu, it's a pretty stacked division, but it gets almost no US recognition because the top dogs fight in Europe
I'd say Jones DQ'd himself from the ratings by being caught cheating in his only fight since the end of 2011, and then tried to pull the same sh*t in the rematch. My top 3 Hernandez Huck Lebedev (he might actually be the best, but got cheated out of a win against Huck and somehow still has the fishy loss against Jones on his record) Flores is just inside the top 10
He will have to get in line behind Mchunu, and Makabu. I'd say Chakhkiev is still a huge threat if he can learn to pace himself better too. Then you have the champions to go through. Good division nowadays.
I was high on Flores till after his VERY lackluster performance against Green where he hardly threw a punch at any opening or opportunity. As if he was afraid of monster counter coming back. It was a sad and boring fight. That said, if BJ has gorwn more confident, maybe he'll actually make the effort in his next title bid. Have to see him climb the ranks first, as he should be in anyone's top 15 with his LOC.:think
He seems to like the idea of being a boxer but can't really deliver on the big stage. His opponents by and large are hopeless and his record is padded.
Lebedev is IMO.....he got blatantly robbed against Huck, and Jones apparently can't beat him without PEDs.....though we really need to see what that beating he took from Jones did to him if anything.
