It just makes me jump that much more on Shumenov's bandwagon that a title "contender" a class up is going after his leftovers.

Damn shame because Flores has talent. But the guy doesn't really "need" boxing, and it shows in both the frequency he fights and the types of fights he chooses.

Maybe the guy is just being avoided? I think he is a decent fighter but I could see guys like Huck, Adamek and Cunningham beating him by wide UD.

To be somewhat fair, he seems sort of hidden from the major networks. I doubt they have much money on those RJJ cards to pay for prime talent..so a dude like BJ Flores (who only made 12K for his last fight) will have to settle for scrubby talent.

I dislike him passing down certain fights though, disappointing to say the least.

Did you guys not hear his interview on OTR recently? This date was expected to be filled with a stay busy opponent as nobody quality was available. Mendoza is actually much better than I'd anticipated. Flores is looking to make a statement here (look for a KO) and then his stated ambition is to clean out the division by 2010/11, then maybe move up for some money fights at heavy. He doesn't want to stay in the game too long.

I heard it, and I hope it comes to fruition because I never like seeing talent on the sidelines. I've got to see what his next fight is after this before I give him the pass for Mendoza, though. Anyone in the top 10 afterwards, and all's forgiven. :D

He was IBF#2, was offered the fight for the belt against Adamek and then chickened out. The guy certainly lost some of my respect.

IBF dropped him big time after that.

BJ Flores is doing the right thing and not rushing it, he's preparing well and this Mendoza is a tough guy he is a good fight for Flores at this time.

Meh, never thought much of his talent or skills. Looks like an average talent to me.
