A gross exaggeration. Quite a few people picked Green to win. I admit I wasn't one of them, but I wasn't overly confident that Roy would win.
Betting agencies, media and the vast majority of armchair 'experts' istalled Jones a short priced favourite who was expected to be an easy winner. Green's win, particularly in the manner it played out, was nothing short of a major upset.
"a snowflakes chance"...figuratively speaking mate, that's exactly the chance of winning Green was given....google the fight if you like as a reminder to where the bookies had Jones....we only had to see the jubilation on Greens face and in his corner to see what the win meant to them. cheerz.
Bookies are whingers. If Green was going to win it had to be by early KO, and while i expected a Roy pts victory, I did not expect a whipping, and the few bucks I put on Green for the KO in the 1st few rnds paid nicely. Roy looked good against Lacy, but frankly it didn't convince me he was back to his best. Green would have pounded Lacy very quickly.
Bookies certainly are whingers. But there's no escaping the fact that Jones a short priced favourite who was expected to beat Green easily. Green's win was nothing short of a major upset, and word of it travelled quickly as demonstrated by all the overseas articles on it in the days following the bout.
I don't dispute Roy was the favourite, but given how many seemed to profit from Green's victory, plenty did not buy into the hype that followed the Lacy fight. I also feel that much of the chatter that followed the fight focussed on whether the stoppage or knockdown were fair and once Roy's team started whinging the controversy carried the news further and faster.
I don't disagree with you Bognashavin. The point Darkhorse was making was that Green went in against RJJ as a clear underdog, but as soon as he won, many very conveniently forgot that point.
If I remember correctly Roy was paying something like $1.35 right? Sure, it was an upset, but a snowflakes chance in hell is a massive stretch. You see teams paying that short lose every week in the NRL. I would say Australia have a snowflakes chance at winning the football world cup, Japan a snowflakes chance to win the rugby world cup, Hewitt a snowflakes chance to win whatever major is next in the tennis. Thats just me though.
$1.35 is pretty damn short when you consider the amount of patriotic betting that wouldve taken place.
True. Don't forget though that Jones has his band of fanboys out here too. I'm not disputing that it was an upset. But saying that Green had a snowflakes chance in hell is way way off. People are saying that noone gave Green an ounce of hope, which is completely wrong. Who did you tip to win?
If the snowflake youre referring to is wedges up Michael Jackson's arse, then I concede that you sir, are right. :good
