...this article is AFTER the announcement was made official:

Danny Green to fight BJ Flores for IBO cruiserweight world title

by Tom Sangster - Daily Telegraph - 7th Sept 2010

DANNY Green has taken the first steps towards resurrecting his reputation following the Paul Briggs farce by announcing one of the biggest fights of his career.

Green will aim to put Australian boxing back on the international map when he locks horns with the highly-respected and

for the IBO cruiserweight world title.

31-year-old Flores, who turned his back on a career in Mixed Martial Arts earlier this year, looms as Green’s toughest world title defence to date.

Green has been hunting for a major opponent since July's farcical knockout of Briggs, who hit the canvas just 29-seconds into the fight after a seemingly innocuous left jab from Green.

Green and his camp were widely derided for choosing to fight the struggling Queenslander, who was suffering serious health problems.

At today’s announcement, Green said he had plenty of doubters to prove wrong following the Briggs farce.

“It has been a tough few months, but I’m focused on the future now and knocking out BJ Flores,” Green said.

“He is a tough fighter at the top of his game, but I have a point to prove and it’s going to take more than BJ Flores to stop me.”

Flores wasted no time in starting the trash talk, claiming he would be the toughest opponent of Green’s career.

“Green is a powerful puncher which was never more evident than his win over Roy Jones Jr, but he has never fought anyone of my calibre.”

“It’s my dream to become a world champion and if it means travelling to Australia to achieve that, then so be it,” Flores said.

Flores has been in training that whole time according to his Coach, his been working on his Power and conditioning while waiting out for an opponent for his IBF eliminator.

Juan Pablo Hernandez or what ever the young man's name is was lined up but they only gave him 2 weeks to prepare, so they had to decline.

Danny just proved what his made off!!

Flores is a considerable improvement over the Green Machine's post retirement conga line of corpses. I have no doubt if it was not for the Briggs shitstorm he would have been fighting the dismal Cameron.

I will not drop $50 on this but I'll definitely head down to my local to check it out!

You can be sure that after this fight when all the idiots start sucking his dick again that he'll once again venture on down to the cemetery to drag out a whole new list of corpses to take him through for the next 2 years.

Big props to Green, massive balls for taking this fight?! Nah... thats a fools way of thinking thats bought about only when comparing it to his recent list of fights. It should be considered the norm for a guy like Green to fight a fight like this.

A good first step for trying to redeem himself, but I still get the feeling that the sequel to his next fight will be more of the same as what we've become used to.

The article also had a different picture on it when I saw it earlier on Stiffy. They've either made a slight change to the words in the later version, or I've just missed a few in the cut and paste process.

ESB's Green haters will no doubt desperately try to discredit Flores, but this is a good match-up and represents a serious test for Green.

no fan of his recent antics.and the constant calling out of Mundine but this is a ballsy move on Greens part and i cant understand criticism of this fight.Geale-Karmarzin,Katsidis-JMM and now Green-Flores some good fights containing Aussies coming up.

    Agreed Stiffy.

Some excellent fights locked in, and they sure make next week's fight look ordinary by comparison.
